Not surprising. Intel retires chips and sockets faster than some people change their underwear!

Which is why I'm amazed how long 775 Core 2 Duo stuck around. Or for that matter Pentium 775, which stuck around even longer (also called 'Pentium Dual-Core).

Intel, why  not make a socket with more pins than you need right now so that in the future faster chips can keep using it. That would mean less need to change motherboards. Oh wait, it also means less profit for them.
