Intel and LG Form Strategic Alliance to Promote WiDi Technology
With CES 2012 right around the corner, companies are scrambling to prepare demonstrations of next generation products and technologies. Continuing with last year's theme, we suspect 3D technology will emerge as a popular topic, and so might Intel's Wireless Display (WiDi) technology. LG, which signed a strategic alliance with Intel to promote WiDi technology, is combining the two and plans show off its upcoming LG Cinema 3D Smart TV line with embedded WiDi.
"Through this strategic alliance, Cinema 3D Smart TV users will be able to access a wider variety of content in a more convenient manner," said Sog-ho Ro, SVP of home entertainment at LG, according to The Inquirer. "Intel WiDi will be one of several features that will enhance the user convenience of our CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, further differentiating our products from the competition."
The neat thing about WiDi is that compatible devices can communicate directly with each other without going through a router. For example, if you own a WiDi-enabled laptop and a WiDi-capable TV, you'd be able to stream content straight to the big screen without tripping over wires or fussing with network settings.
