Welcome to Zune 2.0! Another typical Microsucks product, which is a copy of another, already accepted product. And for anyone thinking this will be a full fledged Windows product (i.e., like your desktop), think again. M$ will cripple it. Then, when they don't make a zillion dollars on it, it will become yet another unsupported M$ item. 3 years or less, and that's being optimistic!

Actually the Zune was a fantastic little player. And the Zune HD with it's built in HD tuner was even better. Great gadget that sadly just didn't catch on. As for the Surface and other Windows based tablets, getting down to something less clunky as other windows slates have been is a great step forward. Let's face it, the people I've seen with iPads do not really use them for anything other than consuming media/web surfing/email. But something running Windows with a real version of Office on it, that can also be controlled via Active Directory? I've already heard the excitement from the platform engineers at my company. They love the fact they won't have to deal with configuring iPads to function on the domain.

The only problem with you fanboys is that this tablet will not need to be very special in order to out perform any android out there and if there are a good set of accessories it will easily compete with the ipad. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and have to constantly jump through hoops to do what I want. I am excited to have a windows machine that will do what I want without work arounds.

I don't think this is going to end up a Zune (or HP's TouchPad). I think Apple and the Asian Android makers are going to get some real competition.

Can't wait for the inevitable fire sale!

Army Of One

The article doesn't how long they expect it to take to sell 3 million units.

When the HP Touchpad went on it's "fire sale", they sold nearly 3 million units also.

I actually have one of the HP Touchpads from the infamous "fire sale." I didn't even know there was a sale on them when I went into Fry's that morning. I saw a guy ahead of me, acting fairly hyper, asking where he could pick one up and overheard the price then. Thought to myself, for a hundred bucks? I'll take one. Still use it, dual booting both WebOS and CyanogenMod 9. Not a bad deal for a 10" tablet at all.

Maybe, just maybe the same will happen on these lol.

The RT tablet looks like it would be nice as an around the house gadget/toy. The Pro running Enterprise would be nice so I wouldn't have to constantly carry my laptop around. But price will be the determining factor. Having Office on them is nice as well.

Don't really care what anyone says after this post. I want one!

I can't wait to buy one of these with a heavy discount (think Zune) and load some future version of Android. No wonder Acer is pissed.
