ICANN Close to Approving .XXX TLD
The porn industry is once again within touching distance of having a dedicated top-level domain, even though it remains divided on the idea of a sponsored TLD. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) said at its meeting in Brussels that it is ready to initiate the process of registering the .xxx TLD. The internet regulator also regrets not authorizing the domain earlier. Its board members now feel that the refusal was antithetical to its policy of remaining “neutral, objective and fair.”
It still wants to ensure that the domain name registrar behind the .xxx TLD, ICM Registry, has enough support within the porn industry to make the new domain viable. ICANN had approved the domain way back in 2005 but decided against it a couple of years later, leading ICM to appeal against the decision. The Independent Review Panel that heard the matter sided with the domain registrar.

IMO this would only be useful if you could police the internet and "force" all porn sites over to that domain. Problem is, you can't do that. Having the .xxx is easy enough to filter for parents and such... but the fact that all the current crap will still remain gains us absolutely nothing. This is a non-event. We will not notice a thing.
