Hulu Developing Subscription Service, Content for iPad
Citing un-named sources "with knowledge on the matter," Reuters is reporting that Hulu is busy developing a subscription service that it plans to roll out on several devices in the next month or two.
At least one of those devices will be Microsoft's Xbox 360 game console, which already features Netflix streaming, while one of the other sources said you can expect Hulu to release a version for Apple's iPad. Naturally, none of the companies supposedly involved had any comment.
While nothing has been confirmed, a move like this would hardly be surprising. It has been speculated for some time that Hulu would look to a subscription based model of some sort, though it remains to be seen how well something like this will be received.
"Many consumers already pay $100 or more monthly for TV, telephony, and high-speed Internet access and are unlikely to welcome an incremental fee merely to watch from the Internet some of the programs they already get," said Phil Leigh, an analyst with Inside Digital Media.
Not everyone share's Leigh's opinion, however.
"Many viewers are not going home to watch TV anymore. They've already been trained to believe TV is coming to them and demand is growing for this content in different forms and different business models," said Mike Vorhaus of media consultancy Frank N. Magid.
Would you pay for Hulu if it was integrated seamlessly into your Xbox 360, iPad, or other Internet-connected device?

The only reason I would pay for hulu (and I would NEVER pay over $10 a month) is because it is my main source for all my TV needs...

"and demand is growing for this content in different forms and different business models"
I love this line. Really? We're DEMANDING for sites like Hulu to start charging us for what we now get free? REALLY???
Retard.
I don't see why anyone would pay for Hulu. What could they possibly offer that we can't get someplace else that we've already paid for?

I guess this makes it obvious that there will be no free hulu access for Google TV as we were shown in IO. Unless google refuses to send any data besides "Chrome" so that hulu can't tell the difference.

Hells no.
Gotta love "progress". Some bag of douche sitting around going "I know, let take something consumers get for free and start charging for it!"

With the recent prevalence of caps on data usage I would imagine that making a "pay for" service would be a bad idea until the idea of "caps" goes away.
Are you paying attention Hulu? No one its going to pay for a service that they know they cant use if overage costs on caps are too high. The ISP's are jacking with your business model Hulu. How does that make you feel?

So, are they going to make a subscription system for devices and leave internet-pc viewing free?
Any computer bought today has the ability to hook up to virtually any TV. Why pay to watch something through a xbox when you could just as easy hook your computer up to your TV and watch it for free?
Ofcourse that all relies on them leaving the pc end free.
