Android fans sick and tired of watching Apple suck up all the best content deals might finally be in luck, Hulu Plus appears to be poised and ready to launch on “select” devices sporting version 2.2 or higher. The news of the upcoming release wasn’t slipped by Hulu officials themselves; rather the tip was picked up by an intrepid reader who noticed the change on the company’s home page. Before you get too excited however, it’s important to note that “select Android OS 2.2 phones” is likely to be a very small list at this point.
Streaming deals on Android devices have always been a fleeting proposition due to lax DRM restrictions on the platform. Devices likely to be approved for Hulu plus will no doubt be those with baked in hardware DRM. The exact list of which models fall into this category isn’t well known, which makes picking a phone today with an eye towards streaming in the future somewhat difficult. The only tip we can offer is that the Samsung Nexus S is the Android phone pictured on the Hulu website, so if you’re on the market for an Android phone today, and Hulu Plus is important to you, we suspect the official Google phone is probably a safest bet.

Is Hulu and Netflix really a big deal for smartphones? Who is really gonna sit and watch a movie or TV show on a 3-4" screen?
Tablets I could see, but not phones.
