HP Unable to Reach Overambitious Notebook Shipment Goal

Hewlett Packard (HP), the world's largest computer maker, managed to miss its notebook shipment target by a significant margin in May, shipping out only 2.6.2.7 million units. The company was hoping to ship somewhere in the vicinity of 3.2-3.4 million units.
Citing un-named market watchers. DigiTimes says HP was forced to lower its notebook shipments in Europe due to the bond crisis in the region. In addition, demand for HP's notebooks and other hardware suffered in China over recent complaints of faulty PCs by China consumers, DigiTimes added.
The poor shipment numbers puts HP in the position of having to ship at least 3.3 million notebooks in June just to stay flat on the quarter. Combined shipments for April and May were only 5.7 million units at best, compared to over 9 million units in the first quarter. HP's annual shipment goal of 45 million units for 2010 is also now in in jeopardy.
On a positive note, some market watchers note that postponed demand from the second quarter could boost HP's shipments in the third quarter and bring up overall performance for the second half of 2010.

Those sales figures aren't too shabby considering this single HP product segment practically outsold "some" or "most" of the overall total Apple sales. Seriously folks, for this single product segment and having sold up to 2.7 million, seriously, it's not like HP is hurtin' here.
