HP Turns Out 23-inch 3D Monitor (2311GT) for Cheap
One of the biggest arguments against 3D technology is the cost, especially as more and more 3D content becomes available, which used to be one of the other major concerns. You know no longer have to ask, 'What the heck would I use a 3D monitor for?,' and with the launch of Hewlett-Packard's new 23-inch 3D monitor (2311GT), you don't have to sweat the price tag, either.
HP's asking $299 for the 2311GT, and that makes it one of the most affordable ways to get stereoscopic 3D into your home. The trick is in the lower cost passive Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) technology, a name that can make your head spin but in semi-layperson speak is really just a specially-treated polarized screen (see HP's TheNextBench blog post for a bigger breakdown).
So it's 23-inches, it's affordable, and it does 3D. But what about the 2311GT's other specs? Well, it's a Full HD (1920x1080) panel with a 5ms response time, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, and ultra-slim profile. Included with the monitor is Cyberlink's PowerDVD software for converting 2D into 3D and two pairs of passive 3D glasses, which adds even more the value.
You'll be able to purchase the 2311GT starting tomorrow.

Not having to deal with expensive shutter glasses is nice and all but the screen seems to be very poor quality with the 5ms response time and the 1000/1 contrast which i assume is not Dynamic contrast. Would this even work with Nvidia 3d vision games or is the purpose of this screen solely on 3d videos? It's also not any cheaper than a 120hz monitor which are meant for the nvidia 3d glasses but with the added bonus of being able to use cheap 3$ movie theatre glasses.
