HP Ditches Plans for Android Tablet
HP has been talking about making all sorts of tablets for delivery later this year, but one by one they seem to be fading away. The newest apparent victim is Android. Sources within the company say that plans for an Android tablet in the fourth quarter have been scrapped. Instead, HP may be directing more effort towards a rumored webOS slate.
HP acquired Palm a few months back, and said they would be “doubling down” on webOS. If there's a place to really make an impact with the Palm technology, it may be tablets. In a few month's time, Android tablets may be a dime a dozen. Making webOS into a viable tablet platform could have long term benefits.
With the lack of definitive news regarding the HP Slate running Windows 7, it looks like HP is trying to narrow their focus. If they're going to keep the iPad from owning the market, that might be a good idea. What OS do you want to see on a tablet? Android, Windows 7, or webOS?

The profit margins on these devices are so small. When factoring in having to compete with the iPad, they probably figure they'd only sell enough units to break even after factoring in R&D costs. Not surprised at all.

I'd like to see an implementation of Maemo 5 or Mee-Go. xD

I registered just to complain. I swear this site is messing with me because I read crap that is weeks old on here all the time. I stop and think I'm having a weird case of deja vu when, in actuality, they keep posting old ass news.

Didn't this news come out several weeks ago that they were developing a webOS tablet?

Some linux distro with support for HDMI, usb2/3 and esata.
Or Xbox360 OS as a tablet that can play xbox games on the run.

I love windows 7, but I don't think it's suited for tablets of this generation. Maybe a slimed down version of win7. But not a full blown desktop OS on a pad. Just doesn't seem convenient. I would prefer to see Android, or even webOS. Just not Windows 7. It's a great, OS but too clunky for Pads. Pads are meant to be for on the go convenience. Sort of like a extra large smartphone. Maybe even a modded version of Windows Phone 7? hmm...

WebOS is the most viable platform for mobile computing because of its multitasking and ease of use. Even though I use the EVO (android 2.1) as my primary phone, I still use my Pre as a backup. I'm still not convinced win7 is a good solution because of its resource hogging. Android would be nice, but honestly, it's just not as polished as WebOS.
