HP Confirms Plans for webOS Slates, Web-Connected Printers
Following the acquisition of Palm last month, Hewlett Packard (HP) wasted no time in scrapping its much hyped Windows 7-based Slate project, sparking speculation that HP would putting its newly acquired webOS platform to good use in a tablet form factor. Well, we don't have to speculate anymore.
During HP's quarterly financial call, company CEO Mark Hurd has confirmed that his HP plans to release webOS devices "beyond smartphones into form factors such as slates and web-connected printers." And just like that, we can be excited about HP's tablet plans all over again.
Maybe even more so this time around. The general consensus has been that Windows 7 might not be the ideal OS for a tablet, as it wasn't designed for mobility. The same can't be said for webOS, which only stands to get better with the financial backing of an industry heavyweight like HP.

I think it is a good idea to put simple OSes on these slates as I would rather have a fast limited computer that still does everything I need, and sometimes want, rather than a big power-hungry OS that is too powerful and slows the computer way down.

I've been using the Pre for close to a year now - and I'll have to say that I'm not too excited about using webOS on a large touchpad. Assuming the price of the Slate webOS and iPad are identical (within $100 apart), I'd rather get the iPad, especially considering that the OS on the iPad will soon support multi-tasking. I've used the iTouch for years, and rank the OS above webOS.

I have had the Palm Pre since Launch date last year and love the OS. I belive that the Web OS was ahead of its time and with the backing of HP now we will see some really cool things with WebOS.
I think the Pre was slightly under powered for the WebOS ultimately. But I never paid for an app becuase of the still robust open source development...
I am getting a evo 4g in a couple of weeks but will anxiously follow news on a web OS slate.....

I dunno, maybe it's just me, but does anyone get excited over the idea of a WebOS tablet? Windows 7, yep. ChromeOS? Kinda sorta. Android? Oh f*ck yeah! But WebOS??? Not so much.
