HP Announces Slate 2 Tablet and 3115m Notebook, Both for Business
After one door closes, another is supposed to open, or at least that's what people always say. Maybe it's true, because after Hewlett Packard closed the door on its TouchPad tablet, the OEM opened its door to the HP Slate 2 Tablet PC. The Slate 2 is an 8.9-inch slate HP says is ready for instant deployment for business and vertical markets such as education, healthcare, government, retail, and any other job that doesn't always keep workers tethered to a desk.
You can think of the Slate 2 as a netbook in a tablet form factor. It has an Intel Atom Z670 processor (1.5GHz, 512KB L2 cache), 2GB of DDR2 memory, up to 64GB of mSATA SSM storage, Intel GMA 600 graphics, HD audio, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, SD card slot, both front-facing and rear-facing cameras, USB 2.0, and is powered by Windows 7. The multitouch display (1024x600, or 1024x768 for some applications) works with both touch and pen input and includes a new Swype keyboard. An optional dock turns it into a desktop on the go.
"HP is dedicated to the tablet PC category and continues to listen to customers and improve the product in ways that best address their business needs," said Dan Forlenza, vice president and general manager, Commercial Managed IT Segment, HP. "The HP Slate includes the right mix of features, support for custom-built applications, and the security and connectivity needed for today's highly mobile and rigorous day-to-day professional environment."
HP also announced a new notebook model, the 3115m. Highlights include an 11.6-inch display with a 1366x768 resolution, AMD Dual-Core E450 APU (1.65GHz, 1MB L2 cache), Radeon HD 6320M graphics, 2GB of DDR3-1333 memory, up to a 500GB hard drive or 160GB SSD, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, HSPA+ mobile broadband with GPS support, SD card slot, three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, and Windows 7.
The HP Slate 2 is expected to be available later this month starting at $699. The HP 3115m will ship November 11 starting at $429.

Now that you mention it, it kind of does. On a semi-related note, I just uploaded a whole bunch of images of the Slate 2 (and 3115m notebook) to the photo gallery.
