How's This For Big? Texas Memory Systems Offers 5TB SSD Rack

That’s right folks, everything is bigger in Texas (oh yeah, I went there). Texas Memory Systems recently announced a monster of a 2U shelf rack, and it’ll hold up to 5TB of single cell flash memory.
The rack drive will be able to deal with 250,000 sustained I/O’s per second, go through 3GB of data per second, and has an 80 microsecond write latency. It’s being claimed that for performance of this caliber using an HDD setup, it’d cost a half-million dollars and eat up 20 times the power.
No word yet on pricing or availability.

I think my definition of 'Consumer Electronics' is a little different than MaxPC's..

What does it say about redundency and raid stuff. I only see alot of storage but no way any real IT guys would buy it for their companies just to have it go south and get fired for being a retard. I though SSD were having problems with RAID.

Well can I set this on top of my Tower and plug it into an ESATA slot? I think that this will make a pretty good back up drive.

5 TERABYTES of SINGLE LAYER solid state awesomeness is going to be a lot more expensive then your "run of the mill" external hard drive. This is designed for use in server rooms for data that has high amounts of access.

Just imagine having that on your computer holding your OS and Data. Fast. Fast. Fast.
I wonder how fast it will load Crisis.

Set this jewel up as your home network file share/everything and whipe the drool off daily.... I /cry when I realize that most of the cool stuff I'll only get to ever play with at work.... I really doubt they would give us a budget for one of these. It's so sad...
Of course No one would ever need anything this large in their home but every one understants it's not need that drives us... it's greed and desire.
Max stop taunting us with all these wonderful toys we're only human....
