Here's a Shocker: Apple Tablet Delayed Again
It looks like the ever-elusive Apple tablet will stay out of sight a little longer than last planned. According to the latest chatter from component makers, Apple plans to postpone the launch from next March to sometime in the second half of 2010.
Apparently Apple has decided to fiddle with its component selection, including a model that will launch with a 9.7-inch OLED panel from LG. Another model said to be in the works will sport a 10.6-inch TFT LCD panel.
Outside of the rumored panel choices, we still don't have any information on what hardware Apple plans to use, but the chatty sources were able to estimate a price. Most 9.7-inch OLED panels run about $500, which typically makes up about 30 percent of the device's total cost. That being the case, Apple's tablet could end up commanding $1,500 to $1,700, the sources say. However, those figures are based on today's prices, and OLED panels are dropping in costs. By the time the second half of 2010 rolls around, the Apple tablet could drop to $1,200 to $1,500, based on the above scenario.
As for the 10.6-inch LCD tablet, sources expect the device to cost anywhere from $800 to $1,000.

I can't believe people are surprised by the fact that apple would sell a product for twice what its worth. But the press around this thing just goes to prove a point most of us have been making for a long time. All the apple fanaticism really has nothing to do with the product its self. Apple could sell a dog turd and people would run out and buy it and tell all of their friends how apple revolutionized the dog turd industry and that they are all idiots for not owning one. Apple loving morons are lining up right now to put down however much its going to cost to own this thing with no idea what it even does. Hell, apple denies it exists. It just goes to show, the consumer as a whole is an idiot and just shops the brand, not the product. Maybe they will be interested in this revolutionary new product:

FOr a device that is just a rumor, who's release date was a vague whisper and itsexistence outright denied by Apple, everyone sure has a solid opinion. I'll believe it when I see it. You have all succumbed to the reality distortion field if you think you know anything about it. But I like the guy who says the TechCrunch is better and half the price when that device has yet to surface.
So would you rather have Pegasus or a unicorn as a pet?

i will take the Pegasus they have wings...LOL...
anyhow. the techCrunch unlike the apple have at least put out Youtube videos and other information on their soon to be maybe device which is way more then i can say for apple. sure anyone can put out specs on a device on white paper but to actually have a working model and then put video of it for the world to say that a compleatly diffrent story...
but like someone said, i will believe it when i see it.

ok what give a few days ago MAXPC posted a story http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/cnn_thinks_apple_tablet_will_be_best_thing_world
and in that story apple said "Apple, in fact, denies it exists. " i'm begining to think apple dosen't have a fraking clue whats going on. Steve is a fraking dumb@$$ if he thinks a device like this will sale for that kind of price.
I'm going to wait and get the Crunch pad device when it comes out for $200-$300, not apples way overpriced POS. i would rather pay for quality over a name"Apple".

I wanted a tablet PC to read PDFs in bed. I figured the Apple Tablet would be a good choice. With that kind of price and that long a wait, I think I will just buy a cheap monitor with long cords and a wireless mouse (take the stand off natch).

..for the same performance. What irked me was when I heard that the Mac Pro Nvidia GT120 cards scale to a 8600GT in PC's. But that's totally irrelevant to the article :)
