Have an Extra 30 Grand to Blow? Buy an 85-Inch Plasma!
Excuse us while we clean up our morning coffee off of our keyboard and desk - Panasonic wants how much for its 85-inch plasma display? The answer is $30,000, but hey, if you wait long enough, maybe you can catch one on sale for 'only' 20 Gs.
According to Panasonic, the exorbitantly priced TH-85PF12U is the industry's first 85-inch full HD, 1080p plasma display and equivalent to four 42-inch plasmas. The company also claims its Neo plasma display panel technology has made it possible to keep the 85-incher "significantly thinner and lighter than past plasmas," measuring 3.9 inches deep and checking in at 260 pounds.
Sounds groovy and all, but how do you convince your significant other that a $30,000 TV set would really complete your living room? Answer that question and you're halfway there.

I know the 103-inch sets require a 220V jack. Don't know about this.

I'll never buy this, but considering the price of screens per inch rising exponentially, plus the strides made in slimming the whole thing down, that doesn't seem too high an MSRP. Joe Six-Pack might not afford it, but every sports bar in the world should pony up.

Where anything (ie fights and or thrown bottles) could happen. I would rather take my chances with the multiple LCDs Besides, aside from the Super Bowl, most sports bars have more than one event on those multiple TVs. for that one plasma, you'd be giving up numerous LCDs

Why should every sports bar in the world pony up for one of these ridiculously overpriced TV's? I promise not every bar in the world can afford one of these monsters. I bought a 72-inch Samsung DLP set for $2,400 and it's amazing. What's SO much better about this TV that makes it $27,600 more? The fact that it's plasma? 13 extra inches? Give me a break! I know Panasonic makes the best plasmas in the industry but they are absolutely bonkers to think that it's worth 30 grand.
I'd say buying four 42-inch TV's and saving about $26,000 would be the MUCH wiser business decision for any sports bar a this point in time.

I'm not saying anyone should pay the actual 30 grand. I did state that as an MSRP. I'm not THAT naive. I do put it to entertainment venues to be early adopters to help drive the price down, assuming this TV ever actually lands in retail channels. Maybe one day 30 grand will get an OLED or better screen the size of your whole wall. My main point is neither I, nor anyone I know, can afford this as individuals.
