GPS Nearly Takes Another Life
Posted 03/26/09 at 05:23:01 PM by Andy Salisbury

That’s right, another life. It would seem that a driver over in the UK has decided to follow the instructions of their in-car GPS instead of the instructions of their eyes.
A man making his way to Todmorden over in England was allegedly told by his GPS to drive directly into a fence (whoa.) just before the road fell off of a cliff. Still, he managed to make it out of the situation alive, and with a lesson that he won’t soon forget. That is, unless he wants to be in the news again.

Just goes to show you can only make technology idiot-resistant, not idiot-proof.

I found this funny. With all of todays technological advances we're babying those who would otherwise succumb to Darwinism. This is Mother nature's way of bitch-slapping us back into reality :)
We have GPS in 2 out of 3 cars here. The only time we even bother to turn them on is when we're trying to find some place in an area we are unfamiliar with, and even then we understand that the information is only as accurate as it's latest update.

I have had a few run ins with my GPS telling me something that was incorrect, like drive through an intersection with a concrete barrier on the other side.
I always said use a GPS like your wife reading a map. It might be in the general area, but your still better off looking to see exactly where your going.

People are slaves to GPS. I was getting driven home one night and I was sitting right there telling the driver how to get back to my apartment. But the GPS was giving a different, weird, route. She kept saying, "But Richard says to take this street!" Not to mention that GPS makes people not look at the road.
