Google's iTunes Killer to be Called Google Music
If we'd been asked to come up with a name for Google's upcoming music retail web store, we would have shrugged our shoulders and muttered something like 'Google Music'. Turns out Google is just as straight forward and uncreative as us. TechCrunch did some digging around on Google's servers and found what appears to be a logo indicating the service would be called Google Music. The file has since disappeared.
Google demoed the web-based music store at Google I/O last month. It was shown off with the ability to do over the air downloads to Android phones. Google didn't really give any detail about the service, which is expected to roll out with the new web-based Android Market. We were skeptical that Google would be doing the actual sale of the music themselves, but would rather be a storefront, but this new evidence makes us think they might go toe to toe with Apple after all.
Apple is expected to launch a cloud-based music service at WWDC next week. So if Google wants to get people interested, they should get Google music ready to rollout soon.

Hello i am shawn lee. Thanks for sharing this wonderful and interesting topic.
Techcrunch has a few shots of the service, which give a pretty good idea of how it’ll work: You, Anonymous Google User, will search for music. Google will return a special search page template with artist info, album listings and cover art — this is something they’ve been doing for a while now. The crucial difference is, you’ll be able to listen to songs, either as samples or in full, by way of a iLike and LaLa player widgets, directly from the results. (It could be more — Kafka says Imeem’s.i hope you are satisfied my comment TAKE CARE Thanks testking ccna shawn lee

The whole I-whatever killer headlines need to stop. Whenever something is branded as the next I-killer and it doen't live up that title it just gives the apple suckboys more shit to talk as something else that couldn't take down apple. These products or services that come out, phones, tablets, online music, should just be advertised for what they are and not as the next I-killer. Besides Apple has enough advertising on their own they don't need anymore from anyone else.

Whatever this service ends up being, I hope it offers DRM free FLAC. Otherwise, I will STILL be buying CDs.

If it's fully available in Canada, with a proper library and whatnot and I can buy full, DRM free, high quality tracks and albums. I'm all for it!
There's very few decent options available for Canadians (can anyone suggestion one that's not iTunes as I said decent.)
And Amazon has dropped the ball. Where's my Amazon Canada Music Store?

What, 192Kbps is not good enough quality for you? DRM Free for that matter too.

dont' take this wrong way, i think iTunes needs better competition, but really, what's wrong with iTunes? i've been buying music there for a while now and i don't think it's too expensive, the quality is good, no DRM, and good selection. is it just a "i-want-anything-except-apple" thing? cuz if that's the case, you're not really looking for a better music store, you're just looking for an iTunes equivalent music store that isn't owned by Apple. Personally, I don't really care where I buy my music.

Part of it is the "I don't want anything from Apple" bit, plus there's the fact that iTunes tries to take over as the dominate media app on my PC, it's loaded with extra crap and garbage that I don't need (iPod updater anyone?), I find it's a very unstable and crappy application.
Plus I've found in the past, that the quality and price of Apple's music selection is not the greatest compared to other places.
