Google and Samsung got all chummy with each other at an event in Hong Kong late Wednesday and jointly announced the Galaxy Nexus smartphone, the first in the world to run Android 4.0, or Ice Cream Sandwich as it's more deliciously known. Samsung's phone does the Nexus brand justice with a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display at 720p and a peppy 1.2GHz dual-core processor.
It also has 1GB of RAM, 16GB/32GB of internal memory, 5MP rear-facing camera with LED flash and zero shutter lag, 1.3MP front-facing camera, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, NFC support, and everything else you'd expect from a modern day Android device.
Equally exciting is the debut of Ice Cream Sandwich, the much anticipated update to Google's Android platform. This is a major upgrade to Android and unlike previous versions, Ice Cream Sandwich was designed to run on any mobile device, both tablets and smartphones. Google redesigned the UI, added a new font that's optimized for HD displays, integrated the hardware buttons you're familiar with into the software, improved the keyboard, revamped notifications, sped up the browser, and the list goes on. The Galaxy Nexus will launch in the U.S., Europe, and Asia in November and be gradually rolled out to the rest of world after that. As of yet, Samsung hasn't announced a price.

Alright, so the CPU is missing 300 MHz, and both cameras could use a few more MPs... but godDAMN that is a *big* screen!! And Android 4.0?!
If the Samsung+Google phones keep going this way, iPhones will have no choice but to run away scared.

I have the Samsung Infuse. It still just has Froyo even though Gingerbread has been promised. Is there any chance of the Infuse getting ICS? If I root my phone, which I haven't yet, could I then get ICS?

Your last question is kinda iffy. You can load ICS on your phone, if a developer releases a ROM for it, built on ICS. That's all there is to it really.
Once the source is released, keep your eyes open on your favourite ROM for ICS on your phone.
