I received an email saying that all pre-orders placed before July 11 should've shipped last week, and those after July 11 should be shipping this week. I placed my order on the 11th, but due to some issues the transaction never went through until the 12th. I didn't get my tablet last week. I guess I can understand why I didn't get it last week, but it's supposed to be shipping overnight this week and I have yet to receive an email from them.

Maybe cause outside the U.S only the 16GB version of the Nexus is available, at least here in Canada anyway.

why can they just have like 2-4GB of internal memory and use Microsd

From what I've read they're either selling the 8GB version at cost or barely making a profit from it. Double the memory and add $50 on the price and now they're making something from it. I'm sure they figured a lot of people would want 16GB so it's profit for them. If all they had was a micro SD slot with a small amount of internal memory then they probably would end up selling every single one at cost.

It also could be an issue with design and keeping the price down, but that's just another guess.

If they really are selling them at cost then they are using the console method. They will make their money in the apps and games and accessories sold, and they know this.

Right, they do know this, but they have an option to get something by selling a version with higher fixed memory for a higher price. It works for other manufacturers (think Apple). I really wish it had a micro SD slot instead of paying more for some garbage flash memory, but I still bought a 16GB anyway.

Perhaps it's time to drop the fail hammer? Oh wait...there isn't a fail hammer, LMAO!

Preordered a tablet on the 29th. 16 gigs. They said it'd ship in Mid-July.

It's mid-July. I have no tablet.

Check your email. I received an email already about pre-orders. If you ordered it that long ago then it should've arrived last week according to their email they sent out. If it hasn't arrived yet then they're probably shorting out on pre-orders also.

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately I live in Canada and the email pretty much told me to sit tight.
I actually just received word this morning that my tablet has shipped. Apparently they ran out of 16gig devices for pre-orders in Canada and pretty much anybody who ordered from the play store had to wait until the second batch came out.

I just got an email last night also saying it shipped, however they promised overnight shipping and they sent it out 2-day UPS.

Consider yourself lucky, they promised me (I paid for) 2-day UPS and my tablet isn't getting here for another week.

Holy crap I'm surprised MaximumPC even reported this.

I know everyone here hates tablets and whatever but they are clearly selling well.

uh not sure where you've heard that MPC readers hate tablets. The blog reports on tablets all the time, and they just talked about the nexus 7 on the latest podcast.

Read more tablet posts and you'll see.

They also had quite the negative opinion on tablets in the last podcast. I remember laughing because I was listening to that podcast.... On my tablet.

i pre-ordered the 8gb version (no need for 16gb as i stream everything) as my first ever "smart" device. i am very pleased with it. i mainly bought it to piss around with and if i didn't like it, it was only $200 wasted. i find myself using it ALOT more than i expected. i don't "game" on it because you can't actually call those things games. i use it just for email, surfing, and streaming to and from my synology nas over both lan and the net. it is so fast and everything is so smooth that i actually am highly impressed and compare it to my i5 IB @ 4.0 and my 60 gb ssd. it actually is that quick. once they offer a 10in version, i will be buying that for a much better streaming experience.

my wife has used ipads at work and actually loves this thing much better. i think google really has a winner on their hands here if they could only keep up with demand.

SO The SIMS and Minecraft are games when they're on PC but not games when they are on tablets? Grand Theft Auto 3 and Final Fantasy 3 are games when they are on their consoles but not games when on a tablet? Thanks for clearing that up for all of us. Anything else you'd like to define for the rest of us? Could you let Google Play know that a lot of the games they have are not really games anymore since they aren't being played on the PC or consoles even though they are the same?
