Google to Roll Out Updates for Android Market
Get ready for a new-look Android Market, as Google has several updates in store that will both introduce new features and give the market place a face lift.
New to the Android Market for Android 1.6 will be the ability for developers to provide screenshots, promotional icons, and descriptions of their apps and games. Google said it is also adding four new sub-categories for easier navigation of apps: Sports, Health, Themes, and Comics.
And finally, Google is adding seller support for developers living in Italy, who will be able to upload apps and target any locations where paid applications are available.
See a short video clip of the overhauled market here.

This sounds like Google being angry at Apple for disapproving the Google Voice app. Do you know what I mean? Kind of like "Hey Apple, if you're apps store isn't going to support us, then we're just going to make a better App store and ship our products to our android phones". Am I right?

Really? Wow, I didn't know that. I guess everybody's trying to capitalize on the app store concept. The concept itself feels a little bit like Linux repositories.
Anyway, I still think Google is a little resentful to Apple, especially since Eric Schmitt resigned from Apple's board of directors when Apple vetoed the Google Voice app. You'd think that Google would be out for blood at this point.

I don't see why Google would be out for "blood"? First off, Eric Schmidt left because more and more he was getting asked not to attend Apple meetings because of Google starting to, over time, get into more of the business area that Apple already was in. E.g. OS, G-voice, Android, etc.

Maybe I'm just completely nuts, but if I were Google, I'd be at least a little annoyed at Apple for rejecting the Google Voice app without any clear reason (I don't think they've provided a clear reason yet, have they?).
I also think it's a little bit of a co-incidence that Eric Schmidt resigned just a few days after the FCC started asking questions about the G-Voice app controversy. Again, maybe I'm just paranoid, but to put it lightly, I don't think that the Google-Apple relationship is as strong as it once was

I think you got some good points. Nope, no clear reason yet. Schimdt being on the board started to be a big conflict of interest because now Google is competing with apple in the mobile OS field. And ya if i was google i would be mad if my app followed all the guidelines and was rejected for no reason. Its just that these updates were not spur of the moment because of this. They could have rushed it out a little faster because of it but Google has had a plan on how they want to develop android since the beginning.
