Google Opens Door to Google+ Invites, Will Close Again Soon
Google+ invites are hotter than a Willy Wonka Golden Ticket right now, and even if you have one, it's still tough to get through Google+'s doors. If you do happen to be sitting on an invite, now's the time to try and check in as Google looks to double up its membership.
Beginning last night, Google opened up invites for its social networking service, but the door will only stay open "for a brief period." Google said its goal is to double its user base in the field trial, though the search company declined to reveal exactly what that number is. Whatever the number, some have accused Google of creating artificial demand by limiting members, but is that really the case?
"As Engineering Director of Google+, I wanted to take a moment to explain why we're growing the system slowly," Google's Dave Besbris said. "First, we want to make sure our infrastructure scales so the service remains fast and reliable. Second, we want to ensure that bugs are fixed while there are still a relatively few people in the field trial."
While invites are currently open, Besbris warns that Google will continue to throttle things, "so please don't mass invite folks as it won't work."
Are you a Google+ user? If so, what do you think of the service so far?

I am now a memember and just recently join a few hours ago. It seems they have reopened the doors for the service. So if you want in you need to speed up. Though as for my opinion, I am enjoying it so far.

The door is closed again, as it states on their page "Already invited? We've temporarily exceeded our capacity. Please try again soon"

Geez, they could not give Google Wave away, now Google + is in such demand... I think I was the ONLY person on Google Wave!
Lance at PCMAG just says "Open the door Google, and let everyone in". Sounds good to me.

And anyone that's had to roll out a major system to a large group of people would know, that you don't open the flood gates right off the bat. That is a recipie for disaster and will bring the system to its knees pretty damn quick.
Google is smart to only allow a small group in at a time, test how things work, fix bugs that crop up, etc. Then let in another batch of people, test again, etc. There will be a deadline that all testing must be completed by, and its up to us, the users, to help Google do the testing. If Google were to roll out a new service as major as Google+ and just let everyone and everything come in, it would fail pretty damn quick, and there'd be nothing but complaints.
Patience young padawan. You'll get your chance. You'll all get your chance.

Didn't the door already close again last night, making this story out of date? People I know who are already in got up this morning, East Coast Time, and no longer could invite anyone.
