It truly does not matter to (any) of these company's what

the cost of production is.

IF  You sign the terms of service agreement (CONTRACT) THEN

    You payThroughTheNose

ELSEIF You do something else with our equipment THEN

   You payThroughTheNose

ELSE

   You payThoughTheNose

END

TRaSh80 RULES!!!

Isn't the discounted carrier price irrelevant to Google? The carrier still pays Google the full price (or whatever wholesale price deal) for each phone, then discounts the price for contract customers. It makes no sense for Google to receive the price difference from the customer if they have already been paid in full.

Didn't Max PC report the other day that the total manufacturing cost of the Nexus One was about $175.00? So the 'recovery fee' is DOUBLE the cost to make the phone.  I think this fee is to discourage people from getting the phone, cancelling the plan, then cracking the phone and selling it on EBay. Just a guess.
