Google Docs Adds New Discussion System
It was last April that Google rolled out a new, and much prettier, version of Google Docs. But El Goog is giving us a new feature to play with. The next time you create a new Google document, be prepared to see the improved Discussions system. Discussions are basically an amalgamation of email and chat that can make proofreading a document easier.
Individual comments on a document can be edited and will have a time stamp to better establish workflow. The profile picture from each Google account is also used, much like chat. Comments that relate to a document change can be tagged as resolved. This means you don't have to delete them to indicate something has been resolved, therefore, you have a record.
Users can have a comment sent via email to get someone's attention by just using the '@' symbol. The text of a comment thread will be sent along. If the user replies to that email, the response will be dropped in the comment thread automatically. Emails and notifications are, of course, configurable. Some of this feels like a definite nod to the now defunct Google Wave. Will you use any of these capabilities?
