I've never specifically enabled HTTPS on my gmail account, but that's what I'm getting. I just assumed it was already enabled by default.

It makes no sense they just now decide to do this. This should have been done a long time ago, all I have to say

 Unless there are negative effects on the user experience or it's
otherwise impractical, we intend to turn on HTTPS by default more
broadly, hopefully for all Gmail users,
