Google to Become Purveyor of Energy

Google has a big need for energy, what with all those server farms it needs to power. To better ensure energy access and availability, Google has decided to go into the energy business.
Google just received regulatory approval from the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to become an open market buyer and seller of energy. This adds to Google’s other energy initiatives, including a number of green energy projects. More importantly, it gives Google better control over its energy future.
But don’t be looking for Google to become your local energy utility--as interesting an idea as that might seem. While Google has received permission to market energy, its near-term plans are more on the buying side. According to Google spokesperson Niki Fenwick, “We made this filing so we can have more flexibility in procuring power for Google's own operations, including our data centers. FERC authority will improve our ability to hedge our purchases of energy and incorporate renewables into our energy portfolio.”

Didn't Google say it wasn't interested in becoming a utilities provider? Or did they just mean for other people?
Yeah they only provide power for themselves now, but what about tomorrow?

It'll will probably balance your check book and upload the info to Google's servers in the background incase you ever loose it.
