Gold and Diamond Gilded iPhone Costs $8 Million
After antennae-gate and glass-gate, we didn't think there was anything that could make the iPhone 4 more absurd, Boy were we wrong. British designer Stuart Hughes was commissioned to turn two regular iPhone 4s into ultra-fancy devices with gold and diamond trim, and what he ended up with were two of the most expensive handsets on the planet.
Hughes wrapped each device in more than 500 individual diamonds, all of which were flawless cut. All told, the diamonds came out to 100 carats. Two interchangeable diamonds fit over the Home button, including a single cut 7.4ct pink diamond and an 8ct single cut flawless diamond. These two pieces alone are worth over $4 million.
"It was a fantastic challenge and I am really pleased with the end result -- the phones look superb," Hughes said. "It was amazing that someone is prepared to spend £4 (just shy of $8 million) on a phone, I doubt it will get used because it is worth so much money. It would be a disaster if it was ever lost."
How's that saying go about a fool and his money? Ah yes, they buy Apple products -- ZING!

Personally I wouldn't spend 8 million on an iPhone covered in diamonds, but it definitely should make the top 10 list of ways to bling yourself up.

In 2008-currency it was 8M.
I am just so happy that someone spent this much diamonds and money on a phone that must use a plastic case to not drop calls. Jobs says the phone cannot be held proparly and diamonds won't fix it. But it is a good museum piece. I am so happy. I'd love to curate a museum of dumb expensive stuff.

by adding the diamonds around the antenna, doesn't this eliminate the antenna grip problem?

I wonder how long before this gets stolen or lost. Or if it'll even be used. This should also have that "I am rich" app that was removed from the app store on it too.
And unless the exchange rate tanked recently, £4 is not $8 million.

It is crap like this that convinces me the human race is not going to make it. Children starving in Africa (and America), underfunded schools in the US, 12% unemployment, ever-increasing ecological disasters killing thousands of people all over the world, and some asshole decides that the best contribution he can bring to the universe is a diamond-enrcusted iPhone....
Whoever the anonymous purchaser of this phone happens to be, by commissioning this, they are essentially saying 'f*ck you, I spit on you' to every poor person in the world. How much good could be done with the $8 mil that went into this piece of crap? I hope they drop it the first day they get it.
