Too bad you lost a sale from me just because I'm Canadian. You see, I purchase pre-paid credit cards at a local store to then use for my Steam purchases. It works for me. However, often I'm left with a dollar or three that I can't really use. This item, at $1.99, would have been a perfect use for those odds and ends. Unfortunately, idiocy has prevaled that thinks the Internet is national.

Unfortunately this article doesn't give a crutial little detail like the PC Gamer article does that there is a lag time of approximately 2 weeks for the international release of this product due to legal issues. So while its certainly not great, its not as bad as it could be. Lets just hope the rest of the issues are day and date through all regions.

Well, here are my thoughts... I would like to see this e-zine more universally available. Not just Steam, but also on Game Comrade, Direct2Drive, Gamers Gate and pretty much everywhere else that sells digital strategy guides. Maybe it would also be great to see this available for tablets like the PlayBook at the app world or whatever really. Anything other than Steam, as many new-comers seem to strongly dislike Steam. Remember, the more places your e-zine is available, the better it is.

IDK WTF your talking about people not likeing steam. However i agree that it should be ava every where else also. I like steam but I dont like the fact that so much of its content is exclusive. They have pissed a lot of game developers off because of this.
Also, what the hell is Game Comrade?

Many people like Steam because they are unaware of the competition. Just like many people think that FaceBook is the only social network. Both FaceBook and Steam have terrible flaws that are forceful against honest consumers like you and I. Meaning, they do not listen to our concerns. They are greedy companies that want our money and will do just about any greedy tactic to make us weak.
Game Comrade is a client just like Steam, only it does not force you to launch the client if you want to play a game. Your computer's credentials wont expire after 30 days offline... Unlike Steam which actually does. If your Steam account gets deleted due to your VAC status, so do all of your games. In other words, we all lose when we choose Steam. I would like it if there was more competition. PC Gamer just made Steam a little more powerful. But it is not fair, because they should be everywhere. And reading a magazine on the go is much better than being stationed to your computer. Right now, you can not access Steam on a mobile device. Anyhow, Game Comrade is made from Direct 2 Drive, and automatically updates games for you just like Steam. You can browse the store through the client and use the instant messenger. Don't worry, there is no VAC status that can ban your account. Game Comrade, like Steam can also run just about any game, including ones not in the client... Overall, Everything Steam does, Game Comrade does better... Only without the annoying forceful client running in the background. You have the choice whether you want to run it or not. Overall, I like having choice.
A lot of game developers have no problem with Game Comrade, Direct 2 Drive and any other competitor out there... Yet Steam is pissing off a lot of developers. Therefore, something is going wrong and we just don't know it. I think Steam is going to look outdated when Windows 8 is released... I don't know. Only time will tell.

I mean absolutely no disrepect, but sometimes I seriously wonder if you inhabit the same universe as the rest of us. A PlayBook version? Dislike Steam? What parallel abomination of a universe are you from?!?!?

I am from a universe where very few people and a majority of people are brainwashed. Yes, dumb enough to get sucked into iProdu¢ts and buying every single little thing with a lower cased "i" as they continue to buy licenses through steam and play it with console controllers. Yes, I do not sheep my way out of things. I do not do Steam or iPad, there... I said it. Unfortunately, I am surrounded dimwits who think iprodu¢ts are cool and Steam password clients are the future. What a flawed society we live in... Don't we?
I guess I should put it like this, "tigers live in the same planet with the sheep" and we all know there is more of sheep in this planet. So of course, you are going to assume I am from another planet... You have never seen a person think for themselves for once. It is alright, I do not blame you... You are just like everyone, brainwashed to think Steam itself is not the worst kind of DRM in the world. Fact is, if I need to log onto a client that tries to solicit more money out of me... Is just plain wrong. The DRM is the client that asks for your password. If your account gets deleted... So does all your games. So there you have it. You have been educated. Steam is by far the worst DRM. It is just as bad as FaceBook is... Oh, let me guess, you use FaceBook on your iOS devi¢e too... Don't you? The sheeps are everywhere.

Yeah, still don't know what universe you're from. All of these things are just tools. There is a lot of grey between the black and white you describe. I don't love Steam, but I also don't hate Steam. It is what it is. 99% of the stuff I've bought are inexpensive indie games that typically can't be bought anywhere else.
As far as I know the only publishers that have issues with Steam are the ones that run their own competing download services. Well, DUH. But whatever. I could get into how most games you download from Steam can be run directly from your hard drive without using the client, but that might just irrevocably blow your mind. And I don't want to be held responsible for making you any nuttier. As for DRM, it's pretty middle of the road.
And I have no love of iCrap devices, mostly because of Apple's horrible business practices. The devices themselves are ok, tho horribly overpriced. Honesly I'm an Android man. So I guess I'm not a sheep after all. Or maybe I'm just a different kind of sheep, one led by the promise of an open-sourced free mobile/tablet OS that's really just a smokescreen for the evil and sadistic dealings of Google. Meh, could be worse.

Steam, Apple, and FaceBook are pretty much the same. Some big corporation that force their own rules onto hardworking consumers like you and I. They are number one because they manipulate people into thinking they are the best. Why are they the best? Steam forces you to run the client just to play a game, Apple tracks you via GPS and kills paid-apps at will, and lastly, FaceBook sells your privacy. These companies do not care about paid customers. We need to open our eyes. The gaming industry should be more like the music industry. No DRM, no dishonesty... Just good old fashioned business. Where the seller trusts the buyer, and vise-versa... Sigh, now I am starting to feel like a dreamer. Doesn't anybody see anything wrong with these companies?

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I am always left asking myself, Why do you use Windows and the Xbox from Microsoft if you are so opposed to the big evil corp? Would not Linux be more appropriate? Then you could truly be taken more seriously.

Who ever said I own a console? I do not own an Xbox. I use Games For Windows Live. The avatar can be generated at the official Xbox website. So I do not know where the hell you are coming off with this. As for Windows, of course I have to use Windows. Most of my games do not even support Linux. Alice: Madness Returns, Silent Hill, etc. Lets not forget that AMD videocards do not support Linux. I am not going to bend over backwards for an OS that hardly runs anything. I like Linux, and if I was not a PC Gamer, this would be the OS of my computer. Very few games support the Unix kernel. Maybe in the future I would upgrade to Linux, but for now, I am sort of stuck with Windows and I refuse to get a mac.

Sorry, I was under the impression that you used a Xbox by the excitement that you showed with Windows 8 integrating the Xbox console code, my apologies.

What you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I'm sorry HG, I don't want to turn this into dogpile HG day, but your bit about "the game industry should be like the music industry... no DRM.. etc." is just too funny.
Wasn't it Sony's music CDs that were actually installing root kits?
The only reason CDs don't have any form of DRM was because there was no internet, no CD ripping software, and no compression formats around when the CD spec was first released.
As for Steam, I've already posted wbout how D2D's heavy handed DRM on HoM&M V forced me into Steam's arms and I couldn't be happier. When you think about it everything comes with risks and benefits. All anybody does is weight them and then make the best choice they can. Sure Steam's not perfect but what is? Just because some people use it doesn't mean we're "brainwashed". It just means we saw it as our best choice for our own reasons.
That even applies to Apple products I guess. They are still overpriced and way too many users have taken the blue pill then joined the iCult, but there has to be a good reason why they sell. Isn't there?

...And this is why CDs are no longer in style and MP3s are the future. No DRM, no hassle, no B.S.! I would rather have a DRM-free future than a Steam Future any time. By purchasing through Steam, you support aggressive DRM. Sure, you do not care about DRM, but why is PC Gaming smaller than Console gaming? Because you do not need 2 programs to run 1 game. Steam is like the AT&T of clients. You are sort of forced to accept their rules. They add their own stuff onto your products and you do not have a say. No thanks, valve can keep their greedy client. I want to own my own games. GOG way is the way of tomorrow.

I agree with Holly regarding GameSpy Comrade. It's the best! I've tried Steam and don't like it. GameSpy Comrade has one click buddy following, cross platform messaging, buddy sync and second to none auto patching (it works correctly the first time!). There have been many complaints about Steam's auto patching and Steam users recommend to just "turn it off". GameSpy Comrade also has next generation game support and it even tracks your own stats. Play single player games with GameSpy turned off. No problem. You bought it, so you don't have to log on to GameSpy to get its permission to play it. But with the the nicest graphical user interface of all the game clients out there, sometimes I just open the client anyway.

I haven't picked up any PC gaming magazine in a while because I haven't seen any in a while. Console gaming mags are also diminishing.

We must find a copy and keep it. If our southerly neighbours want it back, then we simply dump boiling double doubles on them.
