As Netflix looks to move further away from DVD-by-mail rentals and focus more attention on its streaming service, GameFly is taking the exact opposite approach and continues to beef up its games-by-mail operations. The videogame equivalent of Netflix (minus the streaming capability), GameFly is adding a fifth distribution center to help serve its expanding membership. GameFly already has distribution centers in Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Tampa, and Austin, which serve up subscription-based game rentals for the PlayStation 3, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii, and DS, as well as a handful of older consoles, like the PS2, original Xbox, GameCube, and GameBoy Advance.
According to news and rumor site Fudzilla, GameFly is still trying to go public, a process that's taking longer than expected. GameFly, which began operations in 2002, originally filed for a $50 million IPO back in February 2010 and at the time claimed more than 334,000 subscribers and over 7,000 titles.
