I don't get it. He uploads thousands of dollars worth of pictures to an online photo sharing website, isn't smart enough to keep copies backed up at home, and then blames THEM for incompetence? Rediculous. It'd be one thing if he was using a company that's dedicated to backing up and archiving data, but this is freaking flickr, a company that was formed so a bunch of highschool girls can swap pictures of their latest beach trips and practice for when they become big time photographers. This situation is just the end result of his own stupidity.

And his account wasn't "hacked". He probably forgot to change his passwords after he broke up with his psycho ex-gf, the links say that she was the one who changed the email, password, and deleted the account. Lesson learned, don't depend on the internet and don't date psychos.

Didnt you read the article? his account is terminated by flickr, just like mine. I lost about 200-250 pics in there. u know if u lost that much of pictures, u will know how it felt. meanwhile dont just go blabbering your mouth.

Yea I read it, twice. Flickr didn't just delete the account out of the blue, someone got into his account, changed his email, changed his password, and then had them terminate it. It's identity fraud 101. Why do you think the email was the first thing to get changed? I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Flickr does have a verification process for terminating an account, AND changing passwords. I wonder which account got the emails? I've lost data before, it was my own damn fault, I should have backed it up, I didn't, now it's gone. No one to blame but me, lesson learned. If it's important enough to miss, it's important to spend $.10 on a dvd to prevent it's loss. Especially if it's worth "thousands of dollars". If you put your trust into a company that doesn't have anything about backups in its TOS, it's your own fault if you get burned. What do you expect them to do? Wave a magic backup wand and undo everything because you picked a weak password? That's not how the world works.

you know this guy has just lost all his pics, and I know exactly how that felt since I also lost mine in there. And it is such a relief hearing you condemning this guy's misfortunes, by saying it is his own stupidity not changing the password and also there's something about a psycho ex-gf? hmmm... it's very kind of you...

also you said that flickr is a place where a bunch of highschool girls sharing their very unimportant pics?   wow... terrific... it's very nice of you... you know let me say this to you kid... there are many, and yes... I mean many...  Many people in flickr are not highschool girls, In fact I bet you my life that some of them are A LOT older than you are. How do I know this? cause I used to be a mod in there, in my own flickr forum, and I also become a member in several other forums, and let me ensure this to you... we are not a bunch of highschool girls sharing some unimportant pictures, definitely  not highschool girls and in fact the pics that we shared some of them are priceless, an irreplaceable memento, where we shared our moments with our loved ones that are no longer alive. like the pictures that I took with my grand mother.

you know with that kind of attitude I'm pretty sure there are many girls out there that are interested with your heartless personality, just good luck in finding one, kid.

So, once again, if the pictures are so important, valuable,
irreplacable and meaningful, why aren't they properly backed up?
Seriously. I couldn't care less about the demographics, I don't care
about who had what forums, I don't care about mod status. All I care
about is the issue. And the issue is, guy's ex-gf gets into his
account, changes vital info, and then has it terminated. It's not
Flickr's fault. The fact that I'm "heartless" because I don't agree
with crying over spilt milk is laughable, as is your insistance that
women don't want me, because, well, experience proves otherwise.

Grow up.

People who condemn others that are happened to be misfortune are the one who really need to grow up, kid.

And I really feel sorry for my sisters that happen to "want" a heartless person like you, I can imagine what a hard time they must have. My condolences goes to them.

How is he misfortunate? He put all his eggs in one basket, it went bad, and he's not mature enough to take responsibility. So rather than, oh, I don't know, learning from his mistake and making sure it never happens again, he's blaming everyone but the one person who could have prevented this entire debacle. I need to grow up? You need to develop a sense of responsibility. Seriously.

Judging from your last post you really are a 10 years old kid, or if not then you are a sad, sad small little man who can not differentiate between right and wrong... also why dont you buy for yourself a dictionary and look at the meaning of misfortune, or better yet have your parents buy it for you.

and one more thing this guy did not blame anyone, he only blame flickr for not being able to give him support that he deserved, also He did not blame for the loss of his pics, he blamed flickr for not willing to give him back the data which is still restored in their database, hence only his account that has been terminated. Need I to remind you that his account is not deleted, only terminated   (thanx to my b/f for this, I'm so glad that he is such a smart guy)

you know,If you open ONLY your blabbering mouth WITHOUT using your other senses it's gonna make you look more stupid than it already is, dont you know that? I'm sure all the max pc reader and their staff that has been following all these posts will agree with me on this.

Hey why dont you put your pic in your post, so that everybody that see you on the street can recognize your heartless stupid face? or maybe you are too much of a coward to do it?

It is easy to tell that you are a guy. (thanx to you b/f, he is such a smart guy?) haha YOU are your boyfriend, aren't you GUY?

By the way, I've seen "your" pic all over the web. Next time steal one that is lower-profile! Just a free tip from me to you.

He's not misfortunate. Misfortunate implies a situation where
there's no way he could have prevented whatever incident occurred.
Being born homeless, getting raped in a dark alley, getting hit by a
drunk driver, someone burning down your house, someone hijacking a
plane and ramming it into a building, that's what misfortunate is.
Those are the individuals that deserve our time and attention. This
guy could have easily prevented ALL of this from happening in like, 3
different ways. Is this what our society has come to? Get yourself in
a peck of trouble and expect everyone to feel bad and come to your
aid?

What do you expect Flickr to do about it? Are they supposed to
turn back time and telepathically figure out that the termination
request wasn't from him despite the fact that it came from his
account, with his password? With all the crap that gets uploaded to
that site by the minute, there's no way they'd be able to recover anything.
All the stuff that he uploaded probably got overwritten within the
first hour, it's gone forever, there's nothing anyone can do. And for
what it's worth, terminated is just another world for deleted, the
term you're thinking of is suspended. Might I recommend a thesaurus?

Your suggestion that the Maximum PC staff would get a kick out of
this is spot on though. I can't remember how many articles they've
done on the importance of backing up your data in case something
unexpected (like this situation) occurs. Same with file recovery, I
know they've covered it more than a few times. Might want your
boyfriend to go over it again, you know, just so he gets it right next time.

It's funny, you insist I'm only 10 years old, but I'm the one that
can form a cohesive paragraph, not resort to childish insults, and
not keep using the term "blabbering", because, well, this
isn't idle chatter.

avatar

UpsideDownPants

Looks identical to "blabbering" to me? Maybe I am just not as gifted at recognizing it as you.

Wait! I know!

I will read more of your posts for practice!

I had the same experience as this guy is, I woke up one day and lose my flickr acct. my password has been changed, and flickr didnt recognize my login name anymore. however I did not receive any email in my mailbox. only after I contacted flickr, they said my account has been terminated.

not only I lose all my picture but also I lose my status as a moderator/ owner in my own flickr forum. can you believe that? they give the mod status to someone that I didnt even know that joined my forum, and now if I want to join my own forum, I need to join as a guest/visitor. I created that forum, It's my forum for God sake!!!

I doubt that it was hacked; more like he was using a ridiculously easy password. I use a key maker to make difficult alphanumeric passwords [you can specify symbols as well] for important online accounts as well as .zip and .rar files. Here's the link: http://www.softnik.com/download/keymaker.exe. It's free and self contained so you don't need to install anything.

If the pics were that important, then they like nastyman said, should have been backed up to multiple sources like CD/DVD, HDD, SD card, etc., and all woulda been well. I feel his pain though. I installed the download mgr by EA sports because i had bought the northern strike add on for BF 2142. After DL'ing the pack, I uninstalled the mgr. As soon as it was uninstalling, it wiped every folder off my drive with it including all my wedding pics! I still had the pics on my cam (lucky me)! But everything else was gone. It didn't take my icons or apps, just folders with anything in them. I contacted EA and they said "go pound sand" just not in as many words. I did an unscrupilous search for the missing folders to no avail. So to this day, I will not purchase a game online or anything of the sort.

Nastyman

Come on guys I don't believe you didn't back up your own photos before uploading them to a service like you did!! If you didn't, you deserve to loose them!

I had snapfish do this to me as well. They deleted my account because I hadn't logged in for 6 months. All my pictures were gone and they had no way of recovering them. I stopped using them after that.
