Firefox 6 Available For Manual Download
Mozilla fans who are happy marching to the rhythm of Firefox’s new franticly beating drums will be pleased to know that not only is Firefox 6 still on track for release this Tuesday, but here at Maximum PC we have the links to hook you up a whole two days early.
The process involves downloading the installer directly from Mozilla’s repositories, but we have verified that it is indeed the final working code, and is identical to the version that will be pushed out through the auto updater in a couple of days.
For desktop users Firefox 6 is definitely a bit light on new features, but is still a worthwhile upgrade if it’s still your browser of choice.

Thanks for deleting my comment (satire). I'm not sure why you did it but whatever.

Not sure I'm seeing any improvement - while I've found that wandering around thru my Facebook site routinely causes crashes - so that's new.
Sent in the automated crash report on that, while Firefox Help instructs that those with site-specific crashes delete a .dll file in the program's components folder - except that it does not seem to exist with 6...

The problem is not in the version number. The problem is that they are cranking out changes in the way FF works without taking the necessary time to debug the new release. I had to switch to Opera just so I have a dependable browser again. The versions 4 and later run more slowly and are bug ridden. I really see no sense in their new "plan". As you say, who cares what the version number is? Release the added features once they are proven to be bug free.
But there is one additional headache. Plugins like LogMeIn ONLY look at the version number, so report themselves as incompatible when the new version releases, and stop working. LogMeIn, for example, is not trying to keep up with FF "rapid release". So in the end you simply lose the plugin. And if you try to stick with FF4, you get constantly nagged that it is crucial to download the newest version.

Everytime Firefox releases a new version, people keep on whining about the rapid release schedule. Just move on. Who cares if its Firefox 4.1.34.1432 or Firefox 234. They provide release notes. That's what you check, not the numbers.

For those of us still loyal enough not to jump ship at the first sign of trouble, I recommend waiting for about a week from now until updating, especially if you have add-ons.

You can use the "Is It Compatible?" extension to see if your add-ons are supported. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/is-it-compatible/

The rapid release schedule is stupid. They need to get rid of it.

Hell yes! If they keep this up they'll be at version 22 by next year!

Close your eyes and pretend it says "5.1" instead of "6.0". Feel better now?
