Firefox 3 Sets Guinness World Record, Becomes GTA IV of Web Browsers

comment Commentsprint Printemail EmailDeliciousDiggStumbleUponReddit

Firefox 3 has stormed its way to a Guinness World Record for the most number of software downloads in 24 hrs. A shade over 8 million downloads from 18:16 UTC on June 17, 2008 to 18:16 UTC on June 18, 2008 have effectively made Firefox 3 the GTA IV of web browsers.

The browser’s launch, as you all would easily recall, was named “Download Day 2008” and is now an urban technology legend. If you played a pivotal role in setting the world record than you can claim your Download Day certificate and flaunt it the way you like.

Now please bend towards your computer screen and conjure up your best clandestine expression because here is a little secret for you all: even those of you who haven’t even downloaded Firefox 3, and thereby have no hand in the record whatsoever, can get the Download Day certificate. Anybody can!

Firefox 3 sets Guinness Record with most downloads on donload day.

avatarindeed, Sony is an anathema

Blame Sony for not being liked. It just doesn't come up with enough worthwhile innovations. And even its run of the mill products have steep prices.

Skip the publicity stunts and make a half way decent browser.  I would rather use an early release version of IE explorer than the broken and poorly designed FF3.  Between this and apparently pleasuring themselves in front of the mirror (how else do you justify such a horrible feature "the awesome bar"?) they forgot to make a good folow up to FF2.  LEss than a week and my browser was at the point where I couldn't even get to my homepage.  I now use the vastly superior opera 9.5 as my main browser with the still quite awesome FF2 as my secondary.  Someone wake me up after they've done enough updates to make FF3 at least somewhat useable.

avatarWhy?

The certificates are really dumb. What kind of maniac would want one?

avatarI would...

Actually, I have one of those certificates. :-) I show it to my friends and make them jealous. Also, it makes me feel as though I am a part of something important. Seriously though, I helped set a world record and, more importantly, I support the making of good software.
