Isn't there a guy just as good as Wedell at Quake I forget his name he was a Asian guy my brother used to watch his videos.

avatar

Deviate

That would have been Dennis "Thresh" Fong.

He won Carmack's Ferrari in '97. That takes me back.

I dont understand....so he's a good gamer, has nothing to do with his knowledge of manufacturing motherboards or audio gear or whatever the hell else his face is on. Why pay $50-$100 more for it? Theres always something out this with same/better features for your money. I have never seen top builders use "branded" items in their machines....maybe peripherals, but I think real people know how to spend their money correctly....a shame people give in to this stuff.

Hey.That_Dude

Aren't we all riled up?
Some of those comments ruffle your feathers?
Generally, it's considered rude to insult the mentally retarded, but I'll make an exception for you.

Grow up and get some, "assclown".

You're gonna need to try harder next time.

I don't see why anyone would hate him, dude's got crazy skills and each time I see or read about him, he comes across as a nice and humble.

avatar

joeking

Me neither. There's always gonna be haters though.

My friend just lost a really fine $400 motherboard (circa 2006) I gave him due to two of the pins being broken off of the CPU socket.
Mind you, I have never had this problem but I gave this board to a friend (who worked for HP repair for 35 years) who broke two pins clean off while putting in a faster CPU.
This mobo costs less than an SB-E chip tho.
Should the pins be on the mobo or on the chip? What do you think?

avatar

Peanut Fox

That is a tough call. CPUs are often and can easily be more expensive than a motherboard. I don't know of any thousand dollar motherboards.

Perhaps they could not put the pins on either, but have a removable pin plate that sits between the motherboard and cpu. In this instance if the pins break off you can just replace one of these ideally cheap plates.

This board reminds me why I opted to buy a Corsair behind-the-ear headset instead of the Creative "Fatal1ty" over-the-head headset. Both headsets cost the same but one had some dude's name and face on the box while the other was branded like my memory.

avatar

Foxfire15

I own one of the headsets and they're actually pretty nice, and damn comfy too. That said, I can understand why people get annoyed at this stuff.

avatar

zepontiff

No. Please stop. We buy these thing because of features and I refuse to pay extra because you had to pay some chode for his handle.

Also the x-fi would have been just as good without Fatality. I mean the xonars are half the price and as good or better.

I neither hate nor love him. He is/was a skilled gamer but his endorsement is worth less than zero as it just adds to the cost of a product with absolutly no value added. Now if he had a team that tested and set standards and certified and backed the product with his name that might add value but for now it may as well be the Snookie branded whatever.

avatar

aferrara50

Sounds like competition for the Asus RIVE, but without an equally impressive bios and monitoring features it'll likely fail to compete. The only fatal1ty product that was ever good was the X-fi. Other than that they have been mediocre at best. TBH someone that would use a board such as this to its potential will probably be turned off by the Fatal1ty branding. No reason to spend $10k on a rig to have some douche's name all over it. This is where asus' ROG line has a huge advantage.

edit: also just realized there are only 4 dimm slots... nevermind, it won't compete. 64GB of ram is the only way to go with as cheap as it is now. Ram disks dominate so hard.

"The only fatal1ty product that was ever good was the X-fi."

Even then you could get pretty much the exact same thing unbranded for $50 less.

avatar

Hey.That_Dude

Sounds Expensive.

I'm always amused by celebrity endorsements. Do people actually buy a product because someone famous (or even quasi-famous) gets paid to slap their name on it? I guess they must since advertisers keep paying for endorsements.

If the underlying product is sound I'll buy it, but there's always some part of me that wonders if the company is trying to distract me from a flaw in the product by paying someone to say how great it is.

avatar

Hey.That_Dude

I liked some of these products because they were honestly better then others, regardless of the endorsement of some dude.
