Fake Girlfriend Swindles Love Struck Dope for $200,000
A 48-year-old Naperville man is $200,000 lighter after wiring that amount to a fake online girlfriend he thought had been kidnapped in London, according to The Herald News. It wasn't a lump sum payment, but a series of payments made over time as the scammer bled the now broken-hearted would-be lover dry.
The un-named man called the police asking for help rescuing the woman from her kidnappers. It didn't take long for them to figure out that the woman he was sending money to was a fake, leaving him "in disbelief." He told police the online relationship started 2 and a half years ago, during which time he wired various payments totaling around $200,000. And if that wasn't enough of a red flag, he had been wiring the money to different bank accounts in Nigeria, Malaysia, England, and the United States.

LOL WHAT A MORON! How do you not know about scammers by now? The bad part is he has funded them even more and they will become more and more common.

Two and a half years is a long time, and that's a lot of money.
I'd be interested in hearing all the details of this story.

It doesn't add up to me because he's been wiring about $100,000 a year - so this guy has money. It's really hard for me to believe that a guy with that kind of money is that stupid to have fallen for this scam. Unless he's sitting on old money or something.

There's stupid, and then there's this guy. How did someone this dumb get $200,000 to begin with?

Seriously, if this actually happened; where was this persons care-giver; who should have been watching out for him?
I'm not trying to be funny.
Someone this intellectually challenged, should have been discovered long ago, by someone in his surrounding community. And was this inheritance money he had access to? How could he, in particular, have access to 200 grand in less than two years?

Good point. It's hard to believe anybody who isn't mentally challenged could fall for something like this in 2011 but don't underestimate normal stupid people. I do actually feel sort of sorry for the big dope.

A fool and his money are easily parted.
I wonder if he'd like to buy the prototype iPad 3s that I have?

Or should I just give you the number and let you do all the wiring?

This is why you don't use dating sites and instead meet women at bars like normal people.. Oh wait, nevermind.

You'll be sending the money to a bank in Northern Canada. I'll need your SSN, DOB, mother's maiden name...
