I used Facebook for about 2 weeks. I noticed that almost everyone on there is only posting a status for the sake of soliciting for either sympathy ("Cat threw up today... She's sick again"), congratulations (My son just got an A!!) or compliments (Just got my haircut!!). I still keep a profile on there but only to use as a sign-on for other websites so I can use one login for a bunch of diff sites. Otherwise, pretty worthless for me.

The whole social networking concept…Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, even texting in general…has given us the most incurious generation ever. They can care less how anything works anymore, as long as it does.

The advertisers must love this generation.

Thats not the fact, its the education system. It doesn't fuel kids desires to learn (actually it suppresses them) Kids are forced to learn the "curriculum" which is %50 useless horse shit where the other %50 is moderately needed. My most interesting courses in school where the "advanced" ones. Even then I learnt more from the internet and tech forums.

That's an indictment of the education system in general and has nothing to do with social networking.

You also can't use wayback machine to go look at the original Facebook site...unless you apply for whitelisting through facebook.

Should read 9 years of making detailed profiles of people's life's and selling them to the highest bidder. Can't believe anybody uses this crap, nor has a reason to. Ever hear of a cell phone people?? You can stay in touch will people with that too and you don't need to give them every detail about your life. Facebook, G+ and myspace are the scum of the planet making Billions of dollars off of us.

"...you don't need to give them every detail about your life..."

I won't argue that Facebook is inherently self-serving, but it's also only as dangerous as you allow it to be. If you don't give it information that could be used to harm you, it can't harm you.

As an author, Face Book has been a great resource in helping me to connect with my readers and generate sales. It also helped my wife and I spread the word about our fund raiser and searching for a live donor for her much needed kidney transplant.

That's two reasons for you.

Yes, most of FB is people posting pictures that they think are funny and stupid stuff like that but it can be a very valuable tool for small businesses and social causes.
