Facebook Pulls the Plug on Jacksonville's Justin Bieber
Maximum PC Editor-in-Chief George Jones knows what it's like sharing a name with a celebrity singer, and so does former EIC Will Smith, for that matter. Neither one of them has had their Facebook page disabled, but Justin Beiber has.
We're not talking about the teenage Canadian hearthrob, but a middle-aged man from Jacksonville, Florida. A self-proclaimed arcade geek who collects pinball machines, Justin Bieber keeps it real, even if Facebook accuses him of being fake.
"I guess their policy is ban first, ask questions never," Bieber laments. Bieber said he's maintained his Facebook account for six months before it was taken down without any warning or email.
As you might imagine, this isn't Bieber's first rodeo with mistaken identity. He says his phone rings off the hook from fans of the teen pop star, so much so that he had to change his number and put the new one under his wife's name. Even so, it wasn't long before the new number got posted on a fan site and it's not unusual for him to receive as many as 50 messages in as little as two hours.
"It's not so bad," Bieber explains. "It does not keep me awake at night, but I feel bad for little girls who want to send messages to their hero and it gets to [me]."

This is not the Justin Bieber you're looking for.
... although I get the feeling this guy's probably more fun to have a beer with. Now if only we could get Justin and Michael Bolton together.

I hate face book. People spend hours and hours each and every day on freaking facebook. It's stupid.

Facebook is not stupid. Its actually a great idea that got way out of hand because people are stupid.
Hell, we used as a quick way to put a class reunion together. And this reunion was a bigger success than the previous two.
However, I do not understand how people can spend hours and hours there. To me, its a message board, nothing more. How people can play Mafia Wars, or any of the web games that are all basically the same, I'll never know.
No Facebook is not stupid but it does show that way to many people have way to much time on their hands and kids should be made to socialize with actual kids not their virtual counterparts.
ps. Scary but I now read captcha almost fluently.

There are people who do spend hours on Facebook. And there are also people who spend hours and hours playing computer games, browsing the Internet, watching TV, hanging out in bars, watching sports etc. etc.. Huh. I guess addictive behavior can be found anywhere. That doesn't mean the activities are all bad and don't have value.

What was ever good about Myspace? It went extinct pretty quick after people realized that Faceppok pages couldn't be loaded with 5,000 Animated Gifs and it was far easier to search for your friends. I miss nothing about myspace, I never will.

As someone who shares a name with a celebrity, I concur with you guys. WTF? Interesting and totally unrelated side note. Once, many moons ago, I checked into a hotel at E3 with another former Max PC Editor, Will Smith. The lady checking us in double-taked. Of course, she thought Will was George Jones and that I was Will Smith. Pretty funny.

Does it say in Facebook's terms of service that if you have the same name as a celebrity that you don't get a page? Considering how many fakers are out there (has anyone seen my Britney Spears page yet?) it is easy to see how this happened. That said, I would hope that the big FB is going to correct this as soon as possible by reinstating Mr. B's page.

This guy wasn't doing any harm to anybody, and he gets his facebook page taken down. Why is my question.

Because names are unique identifiers. He's obviously impersonating a famous person for unknown, but surely nefarious, ends. ~

I think that might have been a little sarcasim...just a guess. Because a 35 year old guy couldn't have possibly been around before a 16 year old punk.
