Facebook, Comcast Among Most Hated Companies in U.S., Newegg Most Loved
Does Facebook, as a company, make your blood boil? What about MySpace? And should we even bother asking about Comcast, one of the largest cable companies in the world, and also No. 4 on the list of companies customers hate most, as indicated in the American Customer Satisfaction Index? Those three scored 64, 63, and 59, respectively, on a 0-100 scale intended to represent company-level satisfaction.
Business Insider used the ratings to put together a list of the top 19 most hated companies in America, with Potomac Electric taking the No. 1 spot and Bank of America ranking No. 19. In addition to Facebook (No. 10) and MySpace (No. 9), several tech companies made the list, including Dish Network (No. 18), Cox Communications (No. 17), AT&T Mobility (No. 14), Charter Communications (No. 5), and Time Warner Cable (No. 3).
"These are not terribly competitive industries, as the switching barriers for most of them are quite high," ASCI's David VanAmburg told BusinessInsider. "In other industries, like the food or clothing sector, the competition is huge. They bend over backwards to make customers happy, because they have to."
On the flip side, a handful of tech companies scored high on the list, including Amazon (87/100), Apple (86/100), Netflix (86/100), Newegg (84/100), Overstock (83/100), and Ebay (81/100).
Which companies do you have the biggest beef with? And which are your favorites?

I’d appreciate if someone would look into the validity of this because the results don’t seem right. I was shocked to find my employer, DISH Network, on there since I did research on the best TV providers in the US about a month ago. BestTvForMe.com has detailed comparisons of the major TV providers in the US that prove how they truly matchup against each other.

DELL, ONKYO, DIRECT TV, AND HUGHES SATELLITE. IT WOULD BE HARD TO DECIDE WHO IS THE WORST OR LEAST WORST ON THIS LIST.
1- ONE OF THE COMPANY'S IS CROOKED IN IT'S BUSINESS PRACTICES, GIVING WARRANTIES THAT ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO OBTAIN SERVICE ON DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS. CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS DON'T MAKE A DENT HERE. AT TIMES, THERE WERE AS MANY AS TWO DEFECTIVE RETURNS WHICH HAD NOT BEEN CREDITED, ON JUST ONE PRODUCT. PLUS THERE WAS MORE THAN ONE TYPE OF PRODUCT BEING RETURNED, ALL AT THE SAME TIME. PRODUCTS ALL HAD THE COMPANY'S EXTENDED WARRANTY. THERE WERE RECORDED ENTRIES, DOCUMENTING OVER 186 HOURS IN JUST ONE PRODUCT CATEGORY THAT WAS SPENT WITH TECH SERVICE PRIOR TO HAVING A WARRANTY HONORED. ONE PRODUCT QUIT WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF THE FOUR YEAR WARRANTY, AND AFTER COUNTLESS HOURS SPENT WITH TECH SERVICE, THIS PERSON QUIT AS A WASTE OF TIME, PREFERRING TO HAVE A $1,000+ ITEM SIT AND COLLECT DUST RATHER THAN BE AGGREVATED WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT ONE MORE TIME.
2- ONE PROVIDES CHEAP EQUIPMENT AND POOR SERVICE. EVEN GOING TO THE PRESIDENT'S OFFICE TO OBTAIN SERVICE DOESN'T HELP. AFTER TEN YEARS OF BEING A CUSTOMER, HONORING YOUR CONTRACT WITH THEM, FINALLY NOTIFIED THEM THEIR SERVICE WAS NO LONGER WANTED. THIS COMPANY'S RESPONSE IS TRYING TO COLLECT FOR EQUIPMENT THEY DON'T OWN AND FOR MONTHS WHERE THEIR SERVICE WASN'T USED AND ISN'T OWED. THIS COMPANY HAD SENT THEIR BILLS TO CREDIT COLLECTION AGENCIES TO COLLECT FOR MONIES THEY DON'T HAVE COMING, AND THE COLLECTION AGENCY HAS BEEN APPRAISED OF THE FACT THIS IS WELL DOCUMENTED AND THIS WRITER WOULD WELCOME A TRIP TO COURT WHERE THE WRITER CAN COLLECT $500 FROM THEM UNDER STATE LAW.
3- ONE COMPANY MAKES A SHODDY PRODUCT, HAVING WARRANTY IS WELL AND GOOD; HOWEVER, AFTER TAKING SIX MONTHS BEFORE THEY APPROVE GOING TO A REPAIR CENTER, THE PRODUCT IS STILL DEFECTIVE. OWNERSHIP EXPERIENCE, PURCHASE IN MAY 2008, USED UNTIL JULY 2009. THEIR PRODUCT RUINED OTHER EQUIPMENT COSTING NEARLY TEN TIMES THE VALUE OF EQUIPMENT IN QUESTION. THE EQUIPMENT SAT UNUSED FOR TWO YEARS UNTIL THIS MONTH WHEN THE HONORABLE DISTRIBUTOR FOR THEIR PRODUCT DECIDED TO REFUND THE SALE PRICE AFTER TWO YEARS OF NO USE RATHER THAN DEFEND THE CASE IN COURT.
#4- THIS COMPANY HAS DONE NOTHING OTHER THAN PRODUCE A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT WHICH WAS SOLD FOR OVER TWICE AS MUCH AS STANDARD EQUIPMENT, AND WAS SOLD AS THEIR BEST GRADE OF EQUIPMENT WHICH DID NOT PERFORM AS ADVERTISED AND WAS NOT WHAT THE EXTRA MONEY WAS PAID FOR. THEIR EQUIPMENT HAD PROBLEMS FROM DAY ONE AND HAVE RECORDED WELL OVER THREE DOZEN SERVICE CALLS TO TECH SUPPORT FOR THE EQUIPMENT NOT WORKING IN THE SUBSEQUENT TWO YEARS. THE FIX ALWAYS REQUIRED THE ADVANCED TECHNICAL DEPT TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM (SPEAK ENGLISH AND IN THIS COUNTRY), AND FINALLY FOR THE LAST THREE MONTHS OF TWO YEAR CONTRACT THEY REFUSED TO SEND THE PROBLEM TO ADVANCED TECHNICAL DEPT. UNLIMATELY, HAVING LIVED OUT THE TWO YEAR CONTRACT OBLIGATIONS, THEY WERE NOTIFIED THAT THEIR SERVICE WAS NO LONGER NEEDED DUE TO YOUR INTENTIONS ON GOING TO ANOTHER COMPANY <The replacement company products worked as advertised, provided twice the service of the PROBLEM COMPANY for 2/3rds the cost > , ONLY TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM COMPANY CONTINUE TO BILL YOUR CREDIT CARD FOR ANOTHER FIVE MONTHS (SAYING THEY HAD NO RECORD THE SERVICE WAS CANCELLED EVEN THOUGH THEY PROVIDED A 'CASE NUMBER FOR THE CANCELLATION') AND DESPITE ADMITTING THEIR SERVICE WASN'T BEING USED FOR THOSE FIVE MONTHS ) , CONTINUING TO BILL THE CREDIT CARD ANYWAY, MONTH AFTER MONTH OVER THIS CONSUMERS PROTESTS FOR FIVE MONTHS.
THE REMARKS FOR #1 THRU #4 ARE NOT IN ORDER FOR THE FOUR NAMES LISTED. REMARKS HERE JUST HIT A FEW OF THE HIGH POINTS AND DON'T EVEN BEGIN TO TELL THE STORY. PAINFUL AND EXPENSIVE EDUCATION AT BEST. READER IS INVITED TO TRY AND PAIR UP THE 'PROBLEM' WITH THE 'COMPANY'.

Surprising how so many despise Facebook, but use it on a daily basis, eh? I'm sorry, but I value time and my privacy, and so anyone who wants to communicate with me can do it some other way. Why be the follower just because "everyone's using it", know what I mean?
OTOH, Apple's corporate way of doing things sucks. They'll make more money suing developers for using "App Store" than they'll get for their products if the judge and juries see it their way.

Apple does make a lot of money sueing developers but I don't know if its as much as they make charging the rediculous prices they charge! Like $2500 for a desktop that I could build and then install their crappy OS on for like $700.

I should stop using them as a go to store and start using Newegg again. All of the hardware they sell tend to be refurbished. At least they're lax on return policy.

I can't praise NewEgg high enough. Sale prices, returns, free shipping, and the list goes on. They started off their business right, by treating the customer as a prescious commodity, and despite losing some of their shine as they have grown bigger and bigger over the years, they still value the customer. I very rarely buy *ANYTHING* tech related anywhere else!
Who do I hate? That is a long list, but top of that list right now is Comcast. Customer support sucks, no REAL discounts for ANYTHING, hell, just reaching customer support is a 10 minute act of jumping through hoops! I've had a new phone number for over a year and their automated system *STILL DOESN'T RECOGNIZE IT* although I've been told repeatedly that they would update it, even from a supervisor! Minor, but it is part of the whole package. Tech's giving conflicting information on a given subject that could have cost me more money! Changing their "Terms of Service" to include a 250 GB bandwidth limit per month, NOT INFORMING CUSTOMERS, but then calling their "high bandwidth usage" customers who exceed this limit and warn them if they exceed it again within 6 months they suspend my account, infractions after the suspension lead to termination. A bit high-handed and heavy for something they still refuse to give us software to monitor ourselves with. I don't pay top dollar to download ascii files and txt's of first grade readers. I game a lot, download tons of stuff, stream movies and music, video chat and Skpye a bit. I hate Comcast for a multitude of reasons and if I sit here another minute I'll get angry and ruin a Friday night!

You can monitor your bandwidth use online. Go to https://customer.comcast.com/Secure/Users.aspx. You will have to sign in with your Comcast email and password. Be certain you are signed in with your primary account! Look for a usage meter to the right of the Manage My User Accounts heading.
Unfortunately, the Usage Meter has a habit of vanishing around the first of each month, and takes tech support two seeks to get it back up.

Agree on Newegg. Their shipping is blazingly fast (Can place an order on amazon and Newegg same day and Newegg will win by 2 days with their free shipping vs. Amazon Prime!).They also did me proud with the Sandy Bridge issue, they sent me a replacement mobo with free shipping both ways. A pleasure to shop there.
Cox's cable TV was inching its way to $100 without any premium channels- so I brought their DVR and remote back to their service store and dropped the service. They did not say boo either (I am still waiting for a rep to call and offer me a "great deal"). The other shoe is dropping the phone service- just installed Ooma. While the quality is not sterling, the cost is only $3.77/month for free US calling/ Voice Mail/Caller ID on my regular phone line. Bye bye!

I do find their microtransaction focus at present troubling, am still waiting for a release date for HL: EP 3 and recognize that Steam was more of a Steaming Pile when it was introduced but they've completely changed the landscape of PC game sales (for the better, IMO), have a great sense if humor, treat their customers better than many publishers and release quality products. Valve is in my top 5, definitely, even though I distrust virtual product ownership (yet still have purchased my fare share through Steam).

But this list is utter garbage. How is bank of America behind Time Warner? Which is a relatively small company, and also DIDN'T recieve a bailout check in the billions!?
But alas, this list was completely void when apple is put near the top of the most loved list. My ass

Potomac Electric is better known as PEPCO, and provides electricty to Maryland's Washington DC suburbs. And seriously, these clowns deserve the #1 rating. They probably desreve all of the top 10 positions. If there is a storm, you lose power. If it is a nice, clear, sunny day, you lose power. Most of Africa probably has better electric service than PEPCO provides. The executives of PEPCO are quite possibly the biggest tools outside of Wall Street. They've decided that trees are their only problem, so they've hired a bunch of yahoos with chain saws to try and turn the PEPCO service area into a prarie. However, anyone who has ever looked at PEPCO has concluded that inadequate maintenance causes far more outages than trees. The public service commision recently hired a guy to just drive around the PEPCO service area and look for problems. He found dozens and dozens of them. PEPCO was clueless because they never, ever, under any cricumstances, actually instpect their own equipment.
Cripes, I wish PEPCO was even half as competent as Comcast.

To each their own but I hate Newegg. The only good thing about their site is their customer base. The feedback and ratings on items, I feel, are more reliable than other sites because of the fact their customer base is mostly technical.
Once I have the info I need, I go to Amazon to make my final purchase. 9/10 Amazon will have a lower price, better customer service and an infinately better return policy. No need to rush an order or pay extra for that feature, Amazon is natually quick.

If you're finding cheaper prices for computer parts at Amazon 9/10 times, you aren't shopping right. For other electronics, I don't find that unusual. Other than that, though, NewEgg's policies and customer service are at least as good as Amazon's, and hundreds of SlickDeals veterans will echo that sentiment.
So far as rushing orders, I find NewEgg responds pretty quickly. I've ordered parts and had them show up the next day with the free Egg Saver shipping -- I live in Huntsville, relatively close to the Memphis warehouse. I have Amazon Prime, and it pretty much takes 2-3 days to get anything, depending on if they ship it that afternoon or the next morning. I have no complaints for the speed of either.
I'm sorry you've had such trouble. Check out SlickDeals.net next time you're looking for electronics, and give them another shot if you find a good deal. I think you'll find your opinion will change. I hang out with a bunch of tech nerds, and we all swear by NewEgg.

I'm always surprised how many people hate Bank of America, at least in terms of service. I've had less trouble from them than I have many other banks (Union Planters which became Regions comes to mind). The only bank I've had that was better was AmSouth, before the Regions buy-out. Then again, I have a Wells Fargo (once Wachovia) account, and they've been OK, too.
Of course, local credit unions are the way to go. I used to travel a lot, and it was generally easier to have a big bank where I could find a branch almost anywhere. Now, though, I'm just lazy and haven't switched. That, and I depend on my online bill pay settings, and BoA's is awfully good.

You're one of the lucky ones then. I had to sleep on the street in SE Asia because Bank of America canceled my bank card after I specifically told them I would be traveling to the area. Of course, after I called them, they took their sweet time 2-3 days to re-active my card. Bastards of America.
I've heard nothing but horror stories from other people as well. I guess when you're a giant company with no risk of failure (thanks to taxpayer....I mean government bailouts) then you can treat your customer base however you want.

Serisouly? You people still all use banks? I switched to a credit union a LONG LONG time ago. There's just something about a FOR PROFIT corporation handling my hard earned money. I like the fact that I can VOTE every year on the board of directors if I don't like how things are rollin. I could have 5 bucks in my savings account to cast a vote, unlike a corporation where I have to be a stockholder.
You know what I go through at MY credit union?? I walk inside and type my name into a computer where a hot girl says "Welcome to Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union!" and the computer displays my queue in "line". That line happens to be a sweet lounge. There are couches, full size single chairs, a flat screen with CNN (not my choice but hey), a fireplace, a computer terminal with free internet access, a coffee corner with free coffee and donuts, cookies and a bathroom that smells like skittles with HIGH END shitter paper and lotion. After I wait, (usually around 5-10 minutes tops), the teller WALKS from her station into the lounge and says my name. When you stand up, they introduced themselves and walk with you to there station. Are you fucking kidding me? BANKS???? Fuck banks! They treat you like cattle, take forever, and most can barely speak Engrish. US_ Ranger, I've visited many times to see my family and Thailand and I called my CU to let them know each time. I have NEVER had a problem...even with scheduled layovers in China and Japan. As a matter of fact, once I had TWO fradulent charges on my card from Singapore, and my CU called me within 8 hours to confirm. I filled out a police report, forwarded it, and my 1700 bucks was redeposited in my account. I love them.
As far as Newegg, THEY ROCK. I've build my last THREE computers from them. I've had parts fail, but they replaced them, no questions asked. The ONLY thing I hate, is the price for shipping on cases. I wanted a 100 dollar case, and the shipping was 75 bucks. I bought the same case from amazon because the shipping was free. I live in Alaska, so it's hard to get away with free shipping. I usually pay for the shipping on small stuff from Newegg because they are a pleasure to deal with. I would put them up there with Crutchfield. Crutchfield will NEVER be the cheapest, but they will ALWAYS back up there shit, and even have lifetime tech support on EVERY item sold. I know it's not computer related, but I'm buying peace of mind.

That sucks, but I've heard of similar problems with other card-issuing banks. Admittedly, being stranded in Asia is one of the worst results I've heard. For that reason, I've always been told to travel with at least 2 cards and a backup form of money in case both fail or you can't find someone who can take your card. It's even worth looking into a pre-funded card issued by a bank in the area in some cases. This is also one of the reasons I carry a AAA membership and an American Express card (both have come in handy several times).
Point being, all the things I've heard people complain about BoA's practices I've heard about every other major bank. The problem is that banks are not as service-oriented as credit unions. BoA is better than almost every other bank I've used, and I've only heard of a few better banks (Chevy Chase Bank, for instance, before Capitol One's buyout). I can understand the hate, but I don't understand why they're hated so much more than any other bank.

I banked with BOA for a while. Had checking, savings, credit card, the whole deal. In every statement there would be some form of spam. Cash this check for X amount of dollars and unwittingly get signed up in some useless service that charges you every month. Every chance they got BOA would send something to try and weasle out more money. I dropped them for that reason, thats when things got worse. It took multiple attempts to cancel them entirely and months later they still kept asking for money after all accounts were paid off. Horrible customer service and everyone I know thats banked with them agrees.
I banked with Wachovia (Now Wells Fargo) at the same time as BOA. Not one scam. They simply work, and thats all I want from a bank, or most any product for that matter, is for it to simply work as it should and nothing else.

I rate New Egg high. I buy 70% of my computer parts from them I do admit that the shipping time has sliped a little lately but it is also cheaper. I have seen New Egg go the extra mile to provide excellent service more than once.
Last year I started using Cox for my net connection. I have to admit that I am plesantly suprised by the reliability, the consistant speed and the service. My feelings about Cox have improved quite a bit.
Best Buy? That is a good place to go if they have something you need quickly and you do not care if the salespeople know little. As far as service, forgetaboutit.
Apple? What can I say, most (not all but most) Apple users are Apple Kiddies who would not know the difference.
Facebook? It has it's place, it is a good way to stay in contact with long lost friends and family. As for looking for a product or service and using Facebook as a refrence, that is a joke.
Just my Humble Opinion!

"In other industries, like the food or clothing sector, the competition is huge. They bend over backwards to make customers happy, because they have to."
That's sad but very true. The communication industry has such little competition that companies can treat customers like crap and it's not going to affect their sales. If Time Warner decides to treat me so bad that I just can't stand their service anymore then too bad for me because it's the only broadband provider in my area. Just signed up for that new 2 year cell phone contract? Not much you can do when you find out how great AT&T's customer service is.
