Facebook Breakup Notifier Turns You Into a Creepy Online Stalker
So you really dig this one particular girl, the only problem is her Facebook status reveals she's in a relationship? Or maybe the guy you barely know via Facebook is still married to what's her face, and you just know it's not going to last. It's probably not a good idea to go meddling, but it's easy enough to stalk one or more people you're interested in with developer Dan Loewenherz's new Breakup Notifier App.
The aptly named app does just what it says -- it lets you know the moment one of your potential love interests changes their Facebook status to single. You just install it, choose the friends you want to monitor, and then sit back and wait.
According to The New York Daily News, more than 100,000 users downloaded the app in less than 24 hours. It only took the soon-to-be-married software developer four hours to create.
"I wasn't even sure it was work at first," Loewenherz explains. "Yesterday I submitted it to a bunch of friends on Facebook and it just exploded."
The silly little app has the potential to make Loewenherz a lot of money. Right now it's free, but he plans to cash in by hooking users with the ability to monitor two friends at no cost, and then $5 to keep tabs on up to seven people.
"I just hope people use it for good, not evil," he said. "It's really a practical thing. If you're going to refresh someone's page 20 times a day, why not have an alert on it?"

I'm curious. Are there any other MaxPC lurkers out there, besides me, WITHOUT a facebook page? I'd like to think that I'm not the only one.

Dude, if someones lying about their relationship status, there is already something wrong with that relationship, and a real, honest breakup can't be more than a week ahead.
Honestly, this seems like it should've been a "DAY 1" app device. Why did we have to wait until 2011?
If I had any attractive friends I was looking to bumrush, I'd hit this app up like no one's business... but probably forget about it immediately.
