Facebook Acquires Beluga Messaging Service
You may not have heard of mobile messaging service Beluga, but Facebook heard of it. They apparently liked what they heard so much, they bought it. TechCrunch is reporting that Facebook has acquired Beluga; both the product, and the team that makes it.
Word is that Zuckerberg and company will keep the service open, at least for now.Beluga is a group messaging client that shares a lot of features with BlackBerry Messenger. It's not hard to see why Facebook would be interested in getting this team in house. Beluga is run by a team of 3 ex-Googlers, and they were in the midst of a round of angel funding. Facebook must have realized this was their only shot.
Facebook has said only that they will discuss future plans for the service in the coming weeks. We expect Beluga will become a service integrated with Facebook. Are you a Beluga user? Do you trust Facebook to manage this messaging platform?
