F88 Netbook Packs VIA Nano, Boasts 1080P HD Playback

comment Commentsprint Printemail EmailDeliciousDiggStumbleUponRedditFacebookSlashdot

On the outside, it would be easy to mistake the F88 clamshell netbook with Asus' Eee PC 1002HA, but appearance is about all the two have in common. Unlike the 1002HA, the F88 packs a VIA Nano processor (1.6GHz, 800MHz frontside bus) with S3's Chrome graphics and boasts 1080P playback on its 10.1-inch LED display.

Further distancing itself from the netbook-norm, the F88 comes configurable with up to 4GB of DDR2-667 memory and up to 500GB of hard drive storage. Not bad for a market used to seeing 1GB of memory and 160GB hard drives.

Other specs include WiFi, Bluetooth, a 1.3MP webcam, HD audio, multi-card reader, three USB ports, HDMI output, and a 6-cell battery.

There's a good chance the F88 will appear in rebadged form, though in the meantime, no word on price or availability.

avatarAgain, it's all fine and

Again, it's all fine and dandy that new tech is being implemented into netbooks. But these are netbooks. Low power, low cost (for the most part), mini computers for lightweight toting and long batt life (with a 6 cell batt). Adding all that into a netbook will most definately eat into batt life, even with a 6 cell. I bet, even with a 6 cell, it only gets 3.5 to 4 hours tops and I bet also, it will cost 450 +. Again, it negates the purpose of netbooks. Plus, my first netbook was the EeePC 900xx and it was junk. Could not plug it in if it was on. It would scramble the screen up. I sometimes had to hit the power button 3 times before it would boot into windows, i mean it would turn on, but it wouldn't boot. It also felt cheap and flimsy as it creaked and cracked just picking it up. So I exchanged it for the Acer Aspire one. I couldn't be more happier with it.

avatarWell, I wouldn't mind a dual

Well, I wouldn't mind a dual core either but it would be at the expense of batt life with current technology. besides, there's really nothing that you would want to do on these that warrants the use of a dual core.
