Experimental Android Live CD Now Available to x86 Systems

T-Mobile G1 owners already have an idea what to expect from Google's Android operating system, but now anyone can give the OS a whirl, and they can do it on their PC. No convoluted hacks required - just download the Live CD image, burn it to disc, and reboot your PC.

The hacked OS comes courtesy of the Beijing-based LiveAndroid team, who released its first LiveAndroid alpha build in May. Now in version 0.2, the new release is based on Android Cupcake (version 1.5) and adds some useful functionality, like a mouse-controlled curser, keyboard support, and Ethernet. Still missing are WiFi, Bluetooth, and audio.

"LiveAndroid gives you a taste of Google phone on your computer. We want LiveAndroid to be a REAL OS for your computer. Now it is only a toy," the developers wrote on their website.

I've been trying it in Virtual PC 2007 for a few days now, and just can't get the internet to work on it at all.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

It's funny how it always starts off by saying plug the phone in cause you have left then 15 minutes battery life, hehe.

why would you want an internet connection? you'll only be able to download at T-Mobile speeds! And you better plug it in within 15 min. or your phone, er, PC will die. I recommend a car charger.

because i want to test the browser, and display of webpages and content in the phone without actually owning a phone.  I don't care about the speeds.

avatarHo Humm

Why would I be interested in this? Just what I need a new OS with no advantages and lots of stuff it will not do.

I guess if you are an MS basher (which I am not) you would care. I personally do not.

This is the Android OS from Google. It's meant for ANDROID BASED PHONES. Zomg.. Let's try a little research before we just blatantly bash an OS. Fact is that this OS isn't mean to compete on the desktop, its meant to compete against WebOS, Windows Mobile, and other OS's on smartphones. Period. End of sentence.
