I agree that its tough to tell which type you have i'm just glad that I invested in G-skill ram when it was 35$ 4gb wit lifetime warranty. Now you try to get g-skill and it will cost 100$ for 4gb. I have had the g skill ram for 2 years overclocked and it is running as if it were brand new. Key phrase to remember is "you pay for what you get"

It's all good to know, but this knowledge is useless without not being able detect which kit has which chip when buying the product...
