Escalation: Nvidia Files Counter-Lawsuit Against Intel
There's no love lost between Nvidia and Intel, the two of which took years to come to an agreement to allow SLI technology on Intel chipsets and who now are feuding over whether or not Nvidia has the right to sell motherboard chipsets for next generation Nehalem CPUs. If you somehow missed all the recent verbal mayham, see here, here, and here.
Neither company has offered much restraint when it comes to taking shots at the other, and while Nvidia president and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang has been particularly candid, Nvidia is now looking to make its statement in court. The GPU maker on Thursday filed a countersuit in the Court of Chancery in the State of Delaware against Intel alleging breach of contract.
"Nvidia did not initiate this legal dispute," Huang said. "But we must defend ourselves and the right we negotiated for when we provided Intel access to our valuable patents. Intel's actions are intended to to block us from making use of the very license rights that they agreed to provide."
Nvidia's Drew Henry, general manger of MCP business, elaborated on the situation by saying Intel's actions could lead to customers eventually switching entirely to Intel-based product lineups. According to Henry, the dispute is making it hard to sell its products to motherboard and notebook makers while doubt remains over Nvidia's long-term roadmap.

...instead of this back alley, backstabbing BS they are currently employing.
Dear INTEL
You don't stop pushing other companies around.....NOONE is going to buy your' products. Noone likes a bully! I've seen $5 "ladies of the evening" with more honor than you are currently displaying.
Take an OS, and edit out all the efficiency, and what you have left is a post-XP Microsoft operating system :)

Go ahead Intel/Nvidia keep fighting. I'll just be happier having a AMD+ATI system. Sure its slower, but its more power efficent.
The more you fight, the more you will be losing customers with your jokes.

This is why a X58 Chipset motherboard costs the same as the GNP of a small african nation. Also why are Nvidia allowing Intel to use Sli on their motherboards if Intel are stopping them from making chipsets for the i7. I think its time Nvidia grabs intel by the balls because whats the point of buying a horrendously expensive motherboard if you cant put two Gpu's in it.

Nvidia was put into a corner. They had no other choice. Nvidia cannot afford to lose the Intel CPU/motherboard market for it's GPU's. If Nvidia did not give in only ATI would have enjoyed the sales of multiple GPU's to Intel's motherboards and cpu customers. That is a very large market that Nvidia stood to lose.
Nvidia stood to lose big time as ATI stood to gain big time. It would be ATI with a close to unlimited R&D budget to produce the cutting edge in graphics rather than Nvidia.

This is actually a very very bad time for lengthy and expensive court battles. Both companies only stand to lose money from their narrow profit margins. At least wait for the economy to get better so you at least have a chance to bounce back if you lose in court and have to shell out 3/4th your companies value.

When AMD and Intel used the same socket; When pratically anyone could make a chipset for the same x86 platform?
Those where the days. Soon you won't be able to put an ATI gpu on an nvidia motherboard.
You can have your recession. I'm not participating.
