Yay! Another case "mod" that can cause retna damage! Why again do companies make LED parts that are designed to blind us? Enermax? Do they make the cheap catch-on-fire-or-fail-in-a-day PSUs that come with budget cases?

Worthless crap, if it doesn't stick to your forehead and run off fairy tears then I don't want it. It must be crap.

avatar

Caboose

Wait until the Apple version comes out, those I hear will run off fairy tears!

Wow you are all so mature! Sorry but Apple makes the most innovative products around, i am not fanboy but do enjoy and own many of their products, Macbook Pro, iPhone 4, iPad 2, 21.5" iMac, but i also have a custom Windows rig Intel i7 2600K, 8GB DDR3, 120GB SATA6 SSD, nvidia GeForce 580 1GB, Asus ROG 74SW, one Windows Home Server box, a Core 2 Duo home theatre PC with Windows 7 Ultimate. I also work in the IT Industry with Windows Servers and Desktops, so i am not biased and love both products, dont hate and bitch and moan and complain about something you cant afford.

By the way, I hate to be that wierd guy - but your Guru.com profile is lacking, and my IT buddies in Denver, Vail, and even Ft. Collins have never heard of a Nick Steck. Sorry bud.

ChyITGuru

No Guru.com account, and like i care if your "friends" know me. I have only been in the area fro two years after moving from California when CIGNA Healthcare decided to transfer me to Denver. Thne started working for the State of Wyoming. Why the hell am i telling some fairy like you anything, i have nothing to prove, i have a right to say that i hate people that judge anything and everything especially those who have never touched, used or owned a Mac.

http://t.co/0OeVba3   Here's my proof that it's a POS. NEXT fanboy please stand up so I can teabag you! :)  /endteabag

Im using a Mac right now and it's a piece of shit. PIECE OF SHIT. SHIT. As in what comes out of buttholes. It's white bat guano. SHIT. It's HORRIFIC hardware. The software is nice, but it's a POS. It's good for data recovery and porn. Hence the reason I call it a Whackintosh.

You're a very angry person aren't you...

"Why the hell am i telling some fairy like you anything, i have nothing to prove, i have a right to say that i hate people that judge anything and everything"

Oh god, the irony.

w00t! Mac fan here to stir up the Windows users! Guess what? I'm on a MacBook right now!!! It's so awesome! How the LCD bezel peels off, and how the POS trackpad breaks after a month of use! OH and dont forget the 3Dmark score! I ROFLPWNED the cheap-POS Asus ROG laptop I had last year! It cost only $1000 and it was SUCH a POS. My new MacBook got 3000 3DMarks! That crappy Asus only got around 10,000 :(   Oh and don't get me started on the high-quality RAM. The 4 GB of DDR3 1066 is SO uber fast! SO FAST! Makes the DDR3 1600 in my desktop look like complete garbage! BTW the cooling in this MacBook? It's like using liquid nitrogen. The way that the cold air gets pulled in from under the LCD panel, and then the hot air is exhausted RIGHT NEXT to the intake? I can safely say that this laptop may be the single cause of the next ice age.

*facepalm* for an "IT Guy" you have a pretty shitty sense of humour.

I'm sorry if I *offended* you, and your love of the brand. Twas only an attempt at humour which seems to have been lost on someone.

Oh, one more thing...

Being able to afford, or not, does not indicate whether someone likes or dislikes a product. I am more than able to afford anything that Apple produces, I choose not to.

avatar

kevaskous

No, just, no, please stop talking.

avatar

ChyITGuru

Awww did i hurt your "poor" feelings? I hate you people that rag on anything and everything for no damn reason, so what you dont like Apple, have you ever used one? Have you ever owned one? How do you know you dont like it? Just because you dont understand somethings, know how to user somethings, or cant afford something doesnt mean you need to rag on it.

avatar

TerribleToaster

"Just because you dont understand somethings, [or] know how to user somethings, or..."

Seriously, why don’t you grow up? I'm sorry but you are butchering the English language; and no, I am not a Grammar Nazi but I do enjoy many of the English language’s products, such as punctuation, past/present/future tense, contraction, and free flowing verb-subject arrangement. But I still use my slang all the time too. I also work in construction where informal language is constantly used so I am not bias and love both formal and informal language use, but still; don't bitch, moan, and complain in a language you don't understand.

------------------------------------

Hmmmmmm, I wonder if I am overreacting?

Ghok

You got all this from a sarcastic comment? It was just a joke. Do you know many popular brands/companies out there don't get made fun of?

So using these on my PC is pointless, everyone has already posted reasons why.

However, I have an Onkyo receiver in an enclosed cabinet that could use some additional cooling, it has a USB connection on the back of it, at least one, if it's switched power, or even if I can plug in a cheap powered USB hub, then plug this fan in, or a few of them ... I could add this cooler to my receiver in hopes it would extend the life of the little space-heater that it is.

This way I wouldn't have to have the front cabinet door open when I run my stereo system.

Another use for this product; in a network closet, where you might have routers, switches, maybe a small NAS ... using these things might be beneficial there.

I love the way you can take the blades off. More fan manufactures should figure this out. Cleaning fans with cotton swabs gets old fast.

I can't stand the bling-bling lights, but I get that it's all the rage, and you kind of need that to justify the $20 price. At least they included a way to shut them off.

After having so many Enermax power supplies fail (9 out of 10) on me over the last 20 years I don't know how much I trust the company brand name, but I might give one or two of these a try.

avatar

ChyITGuru

Thats a great idea to use it with your audio reciever to cool things down, i might need to steal that idea from you for my own HT Cabinet.

Lets see. I have Neodymium magnets, I have fans, and I have super glue...

avatar

TerribleToaster

Make a skirt out of duct tape and build a small hovercraft with a magnetic leash?

avatar

MrGeek

Is all nice and good that you can move them around on the OUTSIDE... but how would you power it? P/S cables are kinda thick....  am I missing something?? Or are they battery operated?

avatar

JohnP

Powered by USB of all things...

avatar

SuperCruz

Yea, My daughter would love popping these off and storing cheerios and fake food inside my case.

avatar

HVDynamo

These are basically useless. I never move my fans. I build the system, screw them in place, and they stay there forever (unless they die). I wouldn't be worried about the magnets being near your computer, it would take a magnet many orders of magnitue larger than these will be to hurt anything. Remember, Even hard drives have large permanent magnets inside them (for the actuator arm) and they don't even destroy data.

avatar

big_montana

@Paul - Back to school for you, as magnets will not stick stick to Aluminum either do to their atomic nature, and the way the electrons spin spin, which prevents a magnetic bond from forming. Magnets will only stick to  iron, nickel, and cobalt, and other magnets.

avatar

TerribleToaster

Luckily, there are "Aluminum" cases that are not truly aluminum, but an Aluminum alloy (which is sometimes alloyed a ferrous metal). It is, in fact, that some permanent magnets use an Aluminum Nickel or Aluminum Cobalt alloy.

But still, even with a proper “Aluminum” case that has ferrous properties, it’d be a weak hold.

avatar

TerribleToaster

I really don't  like the idea of magnets near my computer. Even today.

avatar

Caboose

You must only use SSDs in your computer then...

avatar

Captain_Steve

I really don't like the idea of easily moving fans. I see the easy moving as less of a convenience (because once you set your fans, how often do you want to move them?) and more of a nuisance as I have to slide them back in place as they slowly shimmy out of place due to the fact that they have moving parts and are held on by magnets.
