Eamex Extends Battery Life, Good News for Notebooks, Electric Cars
Do you know how often we hear about promising new battery technologies every year? Over 4 million times. That's what it feels like, anyway, even if we're way off in our estimation. But here's another number: One. That's how many battery breakthroughs we expect to materialize in an actual product in 2010.
The technology we're referring to comes from a Japanese company called Eamex, who says it has discovered a way to increase the life of high-capacity lithium-ion batteries. We tend to give this one a bit more credibility, if only because Eamex isn't talking about a theoretical tech that could eventually lead to the demise of lithium-ion.
What Eamex has done is figure out a way to stabilize the electrodes and prevent the deterioration of tin. Why's this important? Because it means the batteries can withstand a lot more charge and discharge cycles. We're talking about over 10,000 cycles with a shelf life of 20 years. By comparison, Apple says a MacBook or MacBook Pro battery can withstand about 1,000 cycles over about 5 years of constant use.
Unlike other battery technologies, you don't have to wait a decade for this one to come to market. Eamex says it will ship a battery with about 10,000W of power per kilogram (suitable for electric cars and scooters) by the end of 2010.

It's been a while since this news surfaced up and unfortunately, electric-powered have not yet considered by big car manufacturing companies. How much progress would it take to convince the world how e-cars would save our budget and our mother Earth? Never mind the oil companies btw.

I hope that the Japanese company will successfully improve the life of the lithium-ion batteries. There are many drivers who wait for news of the electric car companies that could upgrade their vehicle. A friend of mine, who sells Mercedes Benz parts, has bought an electric car and he often complains that the battery's life is too short and something must be done to emend the current technology.

Eamex, a Japanese based company, has announced that they have developed a technology that extends the life of high-capacity lithium-ion batteries. The process still causes the tin to weaken, but the bonding between the tin particles will be maintained effectively, extending battery life.

But the car is even not comfortable for two, lol.. I like the idea of infusing the energy ourselves. Have never seen a live one, I just hope that it's not that tiny to take passengers.

Imagine anything from a kei car to an escalade vs. a semi and you get roughly the same result.

Sorry, but this is absolutely no different than the millions other battery claims. This article is based on what? The press releases of this company. That's it. No test unti in the Maximum PC lab. Nothing. Anyone want to bet me that we'll never hear from this company again? Of course, we will not.
Battery claims are like Maximum PC typos and mis-spellings. There are just too many to care about. And in the end, none of them will make any difference.
Unwarranted hype. Sad.

I'm not a professional publication. But if I did have a content-driven professional web site, I don't think I would confuse "there", "their" and "they're". I don't dislike MaxPC, but I just can't stand "professionals" who don't use english properly, and don't properly site sources. The fact that the site content creators make such REGULAR mistakes is what is so confusing, and baffling - at least to those who have studies journalism.
Okay? Fine.
