Dual-GPU GTX 470 Spotted at Computex
It looks as though Galaxy Tech is going to try their hand at a dual-GPU GeForce GTX 470 videocard, at least if Computex is any indication. Galaxy Tech has been showing off a slice of silicon with two of Nvidia's GF100 GPUs slapped onto a single PCB.
The thing measures about 12 inches long and includes two 8-pin PCI-E power connectors, three dual-link DVI ports, 16 memory chips, and a whole bunch of capacitors. It's every bit a prototype card, and Galaxy Tech didn't say when, or even if they realistically plan on bringing this one to market.
The obvious challenge here would be in keeping thermals in check. A single GTX 470 comes rated at 215W TDP, and a dual-GPU solution would presumably run noticeably hotter.

So what you're saying is that a normal Nvidia GTX 470 would be good enough for most people and get enough oohs and aahs while being cheaper then the dual core that would get just as many oohs and aahs? That's crazy, gaming is about looks and performance. If you have a really demanding game you want something that can run it on extreme visuals while giving great frame rates. Video cards are more like shirts really, sure you can get a cheap "shirt barn" shirt that will dissolve in one wash or you could get a "wally world" shirt that would look decent and last a few washes. I choose neither and go with the most expensive name brand shirt that alot of people will notice, can take alot of abuse and look good doing it.

Will this run three monitors? I am considering switching to Ati just because of Eyfinity and if the next gen NV does not support three monitors with a single card I will do so.

You don't know that why would the put 3 dvi connectors if you couldn't? I see the point of 2 dvi with an hdmi or display port so you can use what is convenient but 3 of the same is pointless unless you can use all 3 at once. Remeber it is more a driver limitation than a hardware one plus this has 2 gpu cores.

GTX 4X0 can only support 2+ monitors with SLI, and even though the GTX 295 was an SLI card it still only had support for 2 monitors. And besides, this probably isn't the final board (remember the Fermi "prototype", with wood screws, PCIe power connectors that didn't connect to the board, etc.)

Remember, while SLI can only run with two monitors, running two separate cards you can expand that. This card looks to do it all at once.

The suprising thing about this is that Galaxy is doing this normally evga does something crazy like this (they are probably planning a dual gtx480). But for cooling it really wouldn't be that hard it would be 2 stock coolers connected at the center with a fan in the center. "But it will make the case hotter" bfd a few c isn't going to matter.

I'm sticking with the 2011 Porsche GT2 RS until the Fermi version 2.0 comes out.

Interesting is the fact that there are 3 DVI ports on this thing. That must mean they were thinking of having Nvidia Surround support on a single card which is a huge plus for those who don't want to buy two GPU's.
Seeing as how these GPU's run hot and are OK with the heat, I imagine the planned cooler will be similar to the 480's.

You're still buying two GPU's, they're just on one card now. The tri DVI makes sense, the only problem is it increases the amount of air being dumped back into the PC.
