Dual Screen Samsung Continuum Headed for Verizon

Not a new concept as most flip phones have an external mini screen to display critical information. I highly doubt this will catch on for candybar shaped phones. With a clam-shell phone, perhaps users don't wanna have to flip open the phone. But a candybar phone where the main screen is right above it? How much energy is actually consumed my just turning on the main screen for a short burst of time to check how many missed calls there are? I'm just thinking benefits vs. cost here. Or they could've just put an OLED screen in that thing and solved the battery problem all together.
