Domino's Pizza Incident Shows Just How Dangerous YouTube can Be

comment Commentsprint Printemail EmailDeliciousDiggStumbleUponRedditFacebookSlashdot

It's all fun and games until the prank backfires, spreads like wildfire thanks to the advent of social media, and ends with felony charges and a PR mess to clean up. Or at least that's how it went down for Kristy Hammonds and Michael Setzer, a pair of Domino's Pizza employees who filmed a prank in the restaurant's kitchen and posted it online.

The pranksters will be hard pressed to find any sympathy for the fallout, as their antics included filming an employee "putting cheese up his nose, nasal mucus on the sandwiches, and violating other health-code standards while a fellow employee provided narration," according to a report by The New York Times.

In just a matter of days, the video received over a million views on YouTube and was spreading nearly as fast via Twitter. After being identified, Hammonds and Setzer, who maintain that they never actually delivered the sandwiches, have been charged with delivering prohibited foods.

"We got blindsided by two idiots with a video camera and an awful idea," said a Domino's spokesman, Tim McIntyre. "Even people who've been with us as loyal customers for 10, 15, 20 years, people are second-guessing their relationship with Domino's, and that's not fair."

McIntyre also said the company is also preparing a civil lawsuit.

avatarDomino's is the most popular

Domino's is the most popular pizza delivery company ever. Some think it is the crust that makes it so delicious, but I think it's the sauce. Use this recipe to save some money and make your own at home

I used to work in a kitchen, this stuff happens in every single restaurantin the world.  It is human nature to play and guess what hardly ever, never in front of me was tainted  food ever sent out to acustomer.  So if you boycott Dominos where ever u get your food fromwill have the same stuff happen only this time there will not be some idiotwith a camera recording it and the media to blow it way out of proportion.

Oh, and the three Pizza Huts that I been privied to work at in myyears with the food industry where some of the worst kitchens I've ever workedin.  What do u expect from a kitchen that has been open for 20 years, forit to be spotless?

And no, I do not work for Dominos.

Yeah, dude, I work at a local McD joint in my town and I've never seen any fellow co-worker of mine spit, wipe their ass on, put boogers, or anything else in people's food. I'm not there 24/7, but again, I've never seen it happen.

avatarNo, this does not happen in

No, this does not happen in every single restaurant.  Perhaps in every restaurant YOU have worked in, but my experience has been different.  I have 4 years of experience in food service for McDonald's, A&W, and Gatti's, and I have only ever witnessed or heard of a single incident of tampering with a customer's food.
