Does the FCC Want to Kill Hulu?
One of the provisions in the new FCC mandated net neutrality deal would have Comcast-NBC sharing their content with multiple online video providers. The only problem, NBC has already worked out an exclusive deal with Hulu. This could mean the FCC is looking to take Hulu down a peg, by spreading content more widely.
The relevant section of the regulation reads, "Comcast would be required to offer NBC Universal programming to any online video provider that has reached a similar deal for content with some of NBC’s competitors." This would make Hulu less of a draw if the content could be had elsewhere. Hulu's premium service has already had trouble attracting subscribers.
Of course, it is also possible that the FCC has little intention of enforcing these regulations, in which case Hulu could continue on as usual. We like the idea of having content available everywhere, but without a controlled experience where content producers get a big cut of the take, they might sour on the idea of online distribution even more than they already have.

The FCC does whatever Comcast tells them to do, or whatever Comcast tells federal judges to tell them to do.
Comcast is a monopoly that must be dismantled.

I would like to offer my services to Maximum PC to moderate the comments and keep the spammers at bay until you can find a better solution. I ask nothing in return and invite others to join me.

Thanks Obama! More nanny state! None of could possibly decide for ourselves what to watch or how to spend our money on our own.

I don't know. If I were Hulu I would be getting the lawyers in the bullpen warmed up.
I mostly blame Congress for this debacle. So much of what the FCC has been doing in the Internet and wireless realms seems far outside the scope of what Congress originally authorized or intended. Congress needs to grow a pair and say to the FCC "Your scope of responsibility is X. Anything outside of that requires our explicit approval." And every rule the FCC implements should require Congressional signoff. We have too many unelected officials making laws.

How's that new spam filter working out? Not too well, from the looks of it.
Anyway, I wonder how much money and influence NBC-Comcast will throw into to mix to keep things in their favor.

I'm a loyal MPC customer and I want you guys to succeed. I have had a subscription to the magazine for many, many years. I even had a letter published once.
This is the last MPC article I will read or post a comment to online until you fix your spam problem.
Put in a comment moderation system. Have a look at any popular technology site, like Engadget, Lifehacker, or Slashdot. They are your competitors for my eyeballs. Do you see spam? Why do you think that is? Pull it together and replace this antiquated piece of garbage you call a content management system. You've had far more time than you need to take action. Get it done.
P.S. Merry Christmas.
P.S.S. I had to modify this post to get past your spam filter. Can you believe the irony? The CMS you're using sucks so much you should patent it and sell it to Dyson.

Yes, the spam is a major problem. We've been working on it, but keep running into problems when we test our solutions. In the meantime, editors are taking time (over Christmas even) to MANUALLY delete spam. We hate working so hard on stories for you, just to see spam populate the comments and frustrate our readers. We are trying, we know it's awful, and we appreciate all our fans sticking it out and remaining faithful and patient in the meantime.

Shouldn't the subject indicate that you "were" a loyal maxpc customer? Your loyalty only extends as far as the somewhat minor inconvenience of forum spam. That's not loyalty at all; I mean Benedict Arnold WAS a loyal general in the continental army, until this one time...

If you, FCC, really want to make content more available, ban DRM. It's what prevents me from viewing almost anything that isn't on cable or YouTube. Putting Hulu's content on NetFlix or something dumb like that isn't going to help anyone except the company that got more stuff.

Ban all of its related items, such as HDCP. HDCP is such a hassle for anyone making an HTPC, or anything similar.
