DirecTV Whole-Home DVR Service Eliminates Need for Multiple DVR Receivers
Up until now, if you wanted to watch a program in your bedroom that you recorded with your living room DVR, you were out of luck, at least with DirecTV. But with the launch of DirecTV's Whole-Home DVR service, you can do exactly that.
"We’ve created a connected whole-home service that is perfectly attuned to our customers viewing habits and lifestyles, delivering a DVR experience with maximum convenience and control," said Romulo Pontual, CTO of DirecTV. "The DirecTV® Whole-Home DVR service truly enables customers to watch what they want, where they want and when they want it, by simply using a single HD DVR."
The service runs $3/month, and for that you're able to record and watch shows in up to 15 rooms with a single HD DVR. That means if you record a movie in one room, you can pick up where you left off in another room with a standard receiver. What's more, you can control the DVR from any DTV receiver in your home, including record, delete, pause, and rewind functionality.

This is a great application and I can figure out that it will get people out of some troubles. I once talked about this new technology with a friend who offers apartments for rent in Phoenix. We both agreed that you can record a drama for your wife in your living room, let your mother-in-law watch an antiquities show in the bedroom and finally, you can watch your football game from the bathroom.

Well yes 3.00 a month for the WHole home DVR, but then you have 7.00 a month for the DVR fee, and 10.00 for your HD packaging, unless you have one of their top packages. So looking at that side of you got a possible addition of 20.00 a month just for the base service, plus 5.00 for every receiver after the first one. Working for DISH network, I can tell you one thing for sure, that's a lot of money monthly. I have two TV's in my house, my HD programming is free for life no matter what package I have, having only two tv's I pay no extra money for the second tv, and if I had 4 tv's set up I would pay 14.00 in equipment fees, versus the 15.00 at Directv. I know I didn't have to go through any annoying rebates though to get any discounts I am supposed to get.

FiOS has had this service for well over a year, and you don't pay for the equipment up front. It's only 19.99 per month for the box and dvr service. Not too shabby.

Yeah, $150.00 for extra equipment then $3.00 a month.
The beta worked just fine over gigaethernet for free.

I tell them what, I don't have 15 rooms, much less 15 rooms with a receiver, so what if I just pay for the two receivers they have at the rate of 40 cents. That’s the 20 cents a pop they are charging the guy with 15 receivers. Makes sense to me.
Good catch up with their competition, but I'm not sure that the $3 additional bucks seems like a great idea. Maybe I am just sick of companies pulling the extra bucks. Required datat plans, no emailing our CEO, nickle here, dime there, my paycheck went where?
