Diablo 3 Closed Beta Goes Live
Ooooh, it’s getting closer! Even though the whole “Always online DRM” limitations kind of suck – something that many of you agree with – there’s no denying the fact that Diablo 3 is, well, Diablo 3. You know, the sequel to the super successful and super awesome Diablo 2 (and Diablo before that). It’s been ten years since Diablo 2 blew away gamers across the world, but now – finally! – Diablo 3 is rolling out in closed beta stage.
“The fiery gates leading to the Burning Hells have begun to swing open, and the Diablo III beta test is officially underway. Invitations to participate in the beta test are now being delivered to the chosen heroes,” Blizzard crowed on its website yesterday, and yes, invitations have begun to roll out to the first wave of Battle.net users who signed up to participate. If you didn’t receive an email, don’t fret; Blizzard plans on sending out more invites in future waves. And if you did receive an invite, the company warns that you might want to login to your Battle.net account directly for access to the game rather than clicking on any links in the email, because the phishers are expected to be out in full force to coincide with the launch.
Beta test participants will be able to play as a barbarian, witch doctor, wizard, monk or demon hunter and battle through part of Act One to go “head-to-skull” against the Skeleton King. Blizzard hopes to launch the full version of the game later this year, but it may slip back into 2012 if necessary. Game on!
