Dell PCs Bought from Third-party Retailers Might be Ineligible for Windows 7 Upgrade

comment Commentsprint Printemail EmailDeliciousDiggStumbleUponRedditFacebookSlashdot

All Dell PCs bought after 29 June, 2009 are eligible for a complimentary Windows 7 upgrade, according to a recent announcement by the floundering PC maker. But Dell forgot to mention that in case of PCs bought from brick-and-mortar stores, the date of purchase, in context of this offer, is that date when the third-party retailer bought the PC from Dell. As this date invariably precedes the actual date of purchase – the date on which the PC is bought by the customer, it can potentially render many customers ineligible for the free Windows 7 upgrade. Dell is avowedly aware of the problem and currently working toward a solution.

This happened to me when I tried to register for an upgrade..... I had to go through like 12 flipping foreign tech support people. They were understandable, just very transfer-happy) for them to tell me this same thing. It's really dumb because best buy told me I would get a free upgreade, so I will hold them to it.

avatarWord.  Why do people still

Word.  Why do people still buy this crap?  When are these companies gonna learn that you can't screw everyone, and u know Dell won't offer to upgrade their hardware for free so it can run Win7.  Hello Corp America, Dell, HP, Sony, and Apple all blow.  They will rip ur ass off, and they do, but yet u still buy from them.

Of couse Dell wont pay to upgrade their hardwhere for free, they NEVER offered that. The problem is that if you buy a Dell from Dell.com between now and october 22 you are eligible for a free win 7 upgrade, a OS upgrade.

But since the outlet stores "Buy" the Dell's well in advance their is a conflict.

avatarThis is bunk

Your warranty starts the day you buy it NOT the day best buy buy's it. Should be the same for win 7 upgrade the day YOU buy it. IMHO

Listen here GOOFY, don't talk crap if your not gonna spell things right because it makes you sound just plain stupid.  I did read the Article, and its typical of the Big PC Manufacturers, to say something, and do something else.  Everyone remember them getting SUED for saying there machines were Vista Ready, and come to find out, they couldn't run it.  Maybe thats why they are offering Windows 7 for free because if they give it to you for free and your machine can't run it, they can offer an Upgrade of Hardware for a "Discounted Cost."

avatarHe did not say a warranty on

He did not say a warranty on office (although if the PC comes equipped with software, it is covered by the PC warranty and Dell supports it not MS) he said the hard ware warranty. The Dell warranty actually starts the day it is shipped though, not the day purchased.
